    Abstract: A self-assembled monolayer (SAM) is fabricated using either a semi-fluorinated sulphur containing compound or a semi-fluorinated silane derivative and compressed carbon dioxide as the solvent medium. The temperature and/or pressure of the compressed CO Þ may be varied during the fabrication process to improve the molecular packing density of the monolayer. The substrate may be metallic e.g. Au, Ag, Cu, Pd, Fe, Hg, GaAs, ITO, or Fe Þ O ý or may be glass or silicon. A co-solvent such as H 2 O, CH ý OH, CF ý OH, CF ý CH Þ OH, CF ý CF Þ OH, (CF ý ) Þ CHOH, CH Ú , C 2 H Ú , C Þ F Û , CHF ý , CClF ý , C 2 H Û , SF Û , propylene, propane, NH ý , pentane, PrOH, MeOH, EtOH, BuOH, benzene and pyridine may be used in combination with the compressed carbon dioxide. The self assembled monolayer may be used in an inkjet head, an electronic, optical or an optoelectronic device such as a thin film transistor, an organic semiconductor device or a light emitting diode.

    Abstract: An ink-jet printing head used on the ink-jet printer, which is characterized in that a water-repellent layer (21) comprising a uniform layer of polymer including fluorine is formed on the surface of a nozzle from which ink is jetted. Said water-repellent layer can be formed to be solid and homogeneous by the use of polymer soluble in solvent and including fluorine, and thus an ink-jet printing head excellent in persistence of water-repellent characteristic and effect and durability is provided by a comparatively simple method.

    Abstract: At the rear of liquid crystal display elements 11R 11G, an 11B, each for displaying one component of a primary color, a red EL light source 10R, a green EL light source 10G and a blue EL light source 10B for emitting red color light, green color light, and blue color light are disposed, respectively. Each EL light source includes an organic EL element in which an organic thin film emits light. Each EL light source has a structure in which an organic luminescent layer 14 is sandwiched between an ITO electrode 13 and a metal electrode 15 which have striped patterns which are orthogonal to each other, and sections (luminescent sections) at which the striped patterns of the ITO electrode 13 and the metal electrode 15 intersect with each other emit light. The luminescent sections are arrayed two-dimensionally on a glass substrate 12 and illuminate the entire display area of the liquid crystal display element.

Lights of different colors obtained by lighting the EL elements (100R, 100G and 100B) are modulated by an optical modulation panel (101) to obtain a color image.
