    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the formed article having excellent hardness, rigidity, transparency, gas-permeability, hydrophilicity and water-wettability and useful for contact lens, etc., by immersing a formed plastic article containing Si atom in an alkaline solution. CONSTITUTION:The formed article having an oxygen permeability constant of 10X10 cm (STP)cm/cm .sec.mmHg or higher is produced by immersing a formed plastic article containing silicon atom, e.g. a copolymer of a siloxane compound having double bond [e.g. tris(trimethylsiloxy)silylpropyl methacrylate] and a compound having (meth)acryloyl group [e.g. methyl (meth)acrylate] in an alkaline solution such as an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a highly pure high-molecular compound which has a very low catalyst residue content and can be used for, e.g., biomedical use, by treating a high-molecular compound made by using a Lewis acid catalyst with water and a base after polymerization. CONSTITUTION:In the solution polymerization of a high-molecular compound (e.g., acetylene polymer) made by using a Lewis acid catalyst, the high-molecular compound is purified by treatment with water and a base (e.g., triethylamine) after polymerization. It is possible to obtain a highly pure high-molecular compound which is remarkably low in a catalyst residue content and can be applied to products applicable to living body such as contact lenses and artificial blood vessels.
