    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain oxygen permeability, flexibility and stable UV absorptivity by incorporating an oxygen-permeable resin contg. silicon atom and a benzotriazole-base UV absorbent having a polar group and a specified mol.wt. CONSTITUTION:This optical lens composition contains an oxygen-permeable resin contg. silicon atom and a benzotriazole-base UV absorbent having a polar group and 300-1000 mol.wt. In this composition, the oxygen permeability coefficient is controlled to >=110X10 cm (STP).cm .sec mmHg. The oxygen- permeable resin is the copolymer of a siloxane having a double bond and a compd. having an acryloyl group, and the acryloyl group includes a methacryloyl group. The amt. of the absorbent to be added is controlled to 0.01-10.0wt.%.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a polyester having a low terminal carboxylic acid concentration in a high yield. SOLUTION: An oligomer produced by the transesterification reaction or esterification reaction of a bifunctional carboxylic acid or its ester-forming derivative with a glycol is subjected to polycondensation reaction in a polycondensation reactor, the produced polyester is discharged through the discharging port of the polycondensation reactor by increasing the pressure in the reactor and subsequently the oligomer is subjected to polycondensation reaction in the polycondensation reactor to obtain a polyester. In the above batch process, the amount of the residual polyester is set to 3-10wt.% based on the total polyester obtained by the successive polycondensation reaction.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain polyester chips low in water content by transporting cut chips while holding them to a reduced pressure state or a pressurized state to store them in a first storage tank and to dry the polyester chips at low temp. without lowering productivity. CONSTITUTION: Polyethylene terephthalate produced by polycondensation reaction is extruded from a cap in a strand shape at a speed of 5 ton/hr by applying pressure to a polycondensation vessel and the extruded polymer is cooled and solidified by water and cut by a cutter to form chips. The chips are discharged from the cutter to be supplied to a centrifugal separation type dehydrator to remove a part of bonded moisture and the dehydrated chips are transported over a distance of 30m by pressure feed type transport equipment having capacity of 6 ton/hr to be charged in a chip storage tank to be stagnated for one hr. By this constitution, the chips are dried at low temp. and the moisture content of the chips supplied to a drying process is reduced without lowering productivity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the fusion of polyester pellets at the time of the supply to a drying process or a molding machine by forming at least one dent to the surface which is formed to each of the polyester pellets when the pellets are solidified from a molten state and roughening the surface of each of the pellets after solidification. CONSTITUTION:A surface 1 is formed when a strand of molten polyester is solidified and does not contain the cut surface 2 made by a cutter. A dent 3 is pref. a recessed part relatively shallow with respect to the area thereof like the crater on the surface of the moon and can be formed by cutting the strand of molten polyester extruded from die by a cutter in such a state that the surface of the strand is solidified but the interior thereof is in a molten state. The area of one dent is pref. about 1/30-1/5 the surface area of each of pellets. After the pellets are solidified, the surface of each of the pellets is roughened by stirring the pellets using a granule stirring device to apply shearing treatment to the surfaces thereof and the difference between the surface roughness Ra after surface roughening treatment and that before surface roughening treatment is pref. set to 0.4mum or more.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a high-quality polyester in an industrially advantagenous manner by using the glycol distillates generated in each step as part or the whole of the starting material. SOLUTION: This production process comprises feeding terephthalic acid and/or its esterifiable derivative and a glycol and/or its esterifiable derivative as the starting material into esterification reactors 3 and 4 to effect esterification and feeding the obtained oligoester into polycondensation reactors 7, 8 and 9 to effect polycondensation. In this process, the distillates based on the glycol and/or its esterifiable derivative discharged from the esterification reactors 3 and 4 and/or the polycondensation reactors 7, 8 and 9 are separated from a solid or semi-solid high-melting polymer having a melting point equal to or higher than the esterification temperature or the polycondensation temperature by utilizing the difference in specific gravities.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a polyester in a shortened esterification reaction time by adding an esterification catalyst to a dicarboxylic acid and a glycol to initiate an esterification reaction, and then adding thereto a glycol contg. an esterification catalyst to effect a polycondensation reaction. SOLUTION: The esterification reaction of 1mol of a dicarboxylic acid contg. at least 50mol% terephthalic acid with 0.4-1.2mol of a glycol contg. at least 70mol% 1,4-butanediol is initiated in the presence of an esterification catalyst. At least 15 minutes after the initiation of the esterification reaction, a mixture of a glycol with an esterfication catalyst is added in an amt. of 0.1 to 1.0mol per mol of the dicarboxylic acid in the reaction system to complete a polycondensation reaction while recovering the glycol.
