Abstract: A biaxially oriented polyester film wherein the ratio (=IMD /IND) of the peak intensity (IMD) in the longitudinal direction to the peak intensity (IND) in the thickness direction determined at 1615 cm by laser Raman scattering method is not less than 6; and a process for production of a biaxially oriented polyester film which comprises the steps of controlling the ratio (A/B) of the maximum thickness (A) of the edge portion of a cast film to the thickness (B) of the central portion in the transverse direction thereof in the range of 2 to 6, biaxially stretching the cast film, and controlling the peak intensity ratio of the biaxially oriented film determined by the laser Raman scattering method in the above-described range. The biaxially oriented polyester film thus produced has a specific orientation in the longitudinal direction, and therefore has great strength in the longitudinal direction and small irregularity in properties such as thickness or birefringence.

The polyester film can be used as a base film for a photosensitive material.

Abstract: Molten polyester sheet (2) is solidified by cooling it on the surface of a mobile cooling medium on which water film (7) is formed, and the sheet is stretched at least 4.5-fold in overall stretching ratio in a longitudinal direction through a plurality of stretching steps. Since casting is conducted via the water film, water is absorbed in the surface layer and the interior of the cast sheet, thus facilitating orientation by stretching in the longitudinal direction and lowering the stretching temperature. As a result, stretching with a high stretching ratio can be attained by multi-stage stretching without conducting high-temperature stretching. Thus, this process can accelerate film formation, improve productivity, and provide a film having reduced unevenness in thickness, less surface roughness and excellent abrasion resistance.

Abstract: A film suitable as a base of image transfer material for thermal recording or a heat-sensitive mimeograph stencil is disclosed. The laminated film of the present invention comprises a coating layer on at least one surface of a polyester film, which coating layer contains as a major component a wax-based composition and has protrusions with length/width ratios of not less than 3 at a density of not less than 20 protrusions/100 .mu.m2. The film of the present invention, when used as a base of an image transfer material for thermal recording or as a film for heat-sensitive mimeograph stencil, the running property is good, abrasion and staining of the head are very small, shedding of ink when the ink is applied does not occur, and the adhesion of the ink, clearness of printed characters, anti-stinking property, holing property and clearness of printing are excellent.

Abstract: A three-layered laminated film consisting essentially of (A) a center layer consisting of a crystalline low molecular weight polyolefin having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5 to 1.4 and (B) two surface layers disposed on both sides of the center layer and each consisting of a crystalline polyolefin (b) having a melting point higher than that of the crystalline low molecular weight polyolefin (a), whereby the thickness of the center layer (A) accounts for 30 to 98 %, especially 50 to 85 %, of the total thickness of the laminated film. The invention also relates to applications of the laminated film. The laminated film of the invention has excellent finger-tearability and high toughness but little tendency to curl, to whiten when torn, to get turbid and fibrillated, and so forth. The laminated film is effectively used as an adhesive tape or other applications.

Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a polyester film excellent in rigidity, toughness, dimensional stability, electric properties, etc. and less in thickness fluctuation and surface defects, hence very suitable as a film for various industrial materials such as magnetic recording media, capacitors, heat transfer ribbons and thermal mimeographic stencil paper. The first method of the present invention is a method for producing a polyester film, in which a film made of a resin mainly composed of a polyester is simultaneously biaxially stretched by a simultaneously biaxially stretching tenter oven, comprising the step of effecting small-ratio stretching at an area stretching ratio of 1.0005 to 3.0 times three times or more, to achieve a total area stretching ratio of 25 to 150 times, and the second method of the present invention is a method for producing a polyester film, in which a film made of a resin mainly composed of a polyester is stretched using a simultaneously biaxially stretching tenter oven, comprising the step of effecting a series of operation consisting of stretching and subsequent relaxation twice to less than 10000 times, to achieve a total area stretching ratio of 25 to 150 times.
