Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pigment which suppresses displaying failures of a liquid crystal display by controlling the chloride ion concentration to be extracted into water to be not more than a specific value. SOLUTION: Preferably for a dye of either red, blue, yellow, purple, orange, indigo, crimson or black, the chloride ion concentration to be extracted into water is not more than 100 ppm. Preferably for a green dye, the chloride ion concentration to be extracted into water is not more than 20 ppm. For a color paste containing at least a pigment, an organic solvent and a resin for a color filter of a liquid crystal display, it is important to control the concentration of chloride ion dissolved into the color paste to be not more than 20 ppm against the color paste. A concentration more than 20 ppm could be a cause of displaying nonuniformity of a liquid crystal displaying device. A color paste for a color filter is obtained by removing all or part of chloride ion from a pigment dispersion containing at least a pigment and an organic solvent using an ion-exchange method.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit and prevent display disorders in liquid crystal displays by reducing the generation of impurities from color filters. SOLUTION: In a preparation process of a pigment for color filters, fuming sulfuric acid or sulfuric acid is used as a solvent for chlorination and/or bromination of a compound having a phthalocyanine skeleton, and the pigment is washed with an organic solvent. Here, dipole moment of the organic solvent is 2 debyes or larger. A color paste for color filters contains at least a pigment, an organic solvent and a resin, wherein the pigment is obtained through the above-mentioned preparation process.
