    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare 1,6,11-undecanetriamine, economically, without using water, by catalytically reducing aminopentyl-tetrahydroazepin with hydrogen gas in the presence of a small amount of ammonia and reduced nickel catalyst. CONSTITUTION:7-(5'-Aminopentyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-azepin I is catalytically reduced with hydrogen gas in the presence of ammonia and a reduced nickel catalyst to give 1,6,11-undecanetriamine II. Preferably the amount of ammonia is 1.2- 2.5mol on the basis of 1mol of the azepin I and the amount of water is 0-1pts.wt. on the basis of 1pt.wt. of the azepin.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the title compound useful as a raw material of synthetic fibers and synthetic resins, etc., in high reaction rate and selectivity, by the catalytic reduction of the corresponding tetrahydroazepines with hydrogen in the presence of a specific catalyst and an additive. CONSTITUTION:1,11-Undecanediamine is prepared by the catalytic reduction with hydrogen, using 7-(5'-aminopentyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-azepine of formula I as a starting material, in the presence of at least equimolar amount, based on said starting material, of water and excess amount of hydrogen chloride, using a catalyst containing iridium. The compound of formula I is obtained by the pyrolysis of epsilon- caprolactam or its polymer in the presence of a base, and is in equilibrium with the compound of formula II in the presence of water.
