    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensive disinfectant having a broad antifungal spectrum, usable in a safe manner, thus high in practical value, containing, as active ingredient, a specific carbazate derivative usable as an agricultural/ horticultural disinfectant. CONSTITUTION:The objective disinfectant containing, as active ingredient, a carbazate derivative of formula I (X and Y are each H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen-substituted lower alkyl or halogen; m and n are each 1 or 2; however, when Y is lower alkyl, one of Xs is 2- or 4-substituted halogen) [e.g. 4-methoxyphenyl 3-(4-chlorophenyl)carbazate]. The present disinfectant is high in safety, also having a broad antifungal spectrum, thus being very useful. The compound of the formula I can be prepared by reaction e.g. between a compound of formula II and another compound of formula III.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azeotrope-like detergent composition suitable for deterging lead-free solder flux without using a halogen-based solvent, having excellent deterging power to a smudge in a partly denatured or carbonized state because of reflowing the lead-free solder flux at a high temperature, requiring no rinsing, and capable of using even under conditions of being repeatedly recovered by distillation.
    SOLUTION: This azeotrope-like detergent composition comprises 3-methoxy-3-methyl-1-butanol and at least one kind of saturated alicyclic hydrocarbons selected among methyldecalin, propylcyclohexane, ethylmethylcyclohexane, trimethylcyclohexane, butylcyclohexane, methylpropylcyclohexane, ethyldimethylcyclohexane, diethylcyclohexane, pentylcyclohexane, hexylcyclohexane and tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detoxifying treatment agent capable of decomposing organohalogen compound(s) in a short time and enabling the compound(s) to be detoxifyingly treated without forming toxic byproducts, and to provide a detoxifying treatment method using the above agent. SOLUTION: The detoxifying treatment agent for object(s) to-be-treated contaminated with organohalogen compound(s) is such that the carbon content of iron powder composed of iron (Fe) and carbon (C) is 1.0-60 wt.% determined by the high-frequency induction heating oven combustion-infrared-absorbing analysis method in accordance with JIS G 1211 and the cementite (Fe3C) content of the above iron powder is >=15 wt.% determined by X-ray microanalyzer method. The detoxifying treatment method using the above agent is provided.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To industrially obtain the subject compound useful as a herbicide by etherifying 4-(3'-chloro-5'-trifluoromethyl-2'pyridyloxy)phenol in a specific condition and esterifying in reacting with hydrogen halide, etc. CONSTITUTION:A solution of 4-(3'-chloro-5'-trifluoromethyl-2'pyridyloxy)phenol in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent (e.g. benzene, toluene or xylene) is refluxed at a temperature of 40-80 deg.C in a reduced pressure condition and an aqueous solution dissolving (2S)-2-chloropropionic acid and a hydrogen halide-removing reagent is supplied to said refluxed solution, and simultaneously dehydrating, then a hydrogen halide and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol are added to the resultant reacted solution without isolation nor purification to afford optically active (2R)-tetrahydrofurfuryl 2-[4'-(3''-chloro-5''-trifluoromethyl-2''-pyridyloxy)phenoxy] propionate.
