Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve long-term reliability by constituting a sealing agent for sealing the peripheral edge of a substrate of moistureproof fibers and an adhesive formed atop the fibers. CONSTITUTION:The sealing agent for sealing the peripheral edge of the substrate of the liquid crystal display panel which consists of two sheets of the substrates 1, 5 disposed with transparent electrodes and a medium layer 4 formed by dispersing a liquid crystal into a medium, and has the medium layer 4 crimped by two sheets of the substrates 1, 5 in such a manner that the transparent electrode surfaces face each other consists of the moistureproof fibers 2 and the adhesive 3 formed atop the fibers 2. The moistureproof fibers 2 are exemplified by plastic fibers, such as polyethylene and polypropylene, or glass fibers, etc. A tacky adhesive or the like may be applied on these fibers in order to improve the adhesive property to the peripheral edge of the substrate. After the end of the medium layer 4 in the peripheral edge of the substrate is brought into tight contact with the waterproof biers 2, the edge is hermetically sealed by forming the adhesive layer 3 and, therefore, the hygroscopicity is small and the long-term reliability is excellent.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce hygroscopicity and to improve reliability in the liquid crystal display panel by coating the peripheral edge part of bases with a moisture-proof film to seal the inside of the bases. CONSTITUTION:A medium layer 4 formed by dispersing liquid crystal in a medium is held between two bases 1, 5 on which transparent electrodes are formed so that these electrode faces are opposed to each other. The moisture- proof film 2 is arranged on the peripheral edge part of the bases 1, 5 and stuck with a bonding agent 3. A polyethylene film can be adopted as the film 2. On the other hand, a hot melt group bonding agent is used as the bonding agent 3.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To seal the peripheral edges of substrates at a short period of time and to lessen the influence on a liquid crystal by heating in a sealing stage by hermetically sealing the peripheral edges with a mixture composed of paraffin wax and hot melt adhesive. CONSTITUTION:The paraffin wax having 60 to 75 deg. m.p. is preferable. The hot melt adhesive is exemplified by hydrocarbon resin, etc., essentially consisting of polyolefins. A packing material having electrical insulating and moistureproofing characteristics are further added and mixed to and with the sealing material and this material is applied to the sealing part, by which the deterioration in the performance of the panel is further prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate the trouble with the penetration of an adhesive by forming a sealant for sealing the peripheral edge part of substrates of a hot melt material and the adhesive formed atop this hot melt material. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display panel consists of two sheets of the substrates 1, 5 provided with the transparent electrodes and a medium layer 4 formed by dispersing a liquid crystal in a medium. The medium layer 4 is so held by two sheets of the substrates 1, 5 that the transparent electrode surface face each other. The end of the medium layer 4 at the peripheral edge of the substrates 1, 5 of this panel is hermetically sealed by covering this part with the hot melt material 2, then forming the layer of the adhesive 3 thereon. The trouble by the penetration of the adhesive 3 is, therefore, eliminated. In addition, lower hygroscopicity and improved long-term reliability are obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the liquid crystal display panel of a polymer dispersed type having excellent water resistance by crimping a medium layer by two sheets of substrates in such a manner that transparent electrode surfaces face each other and heating and sealing the peripheral edge parts of the substrates by irradiation with a laser. CONSTITUTION:The peripheral edge parts are heated and sealed by the irradiation with the laser to produce the liquid crystal display panel constituted by crimping the medium layer by two sheets of the substrates in such a manner that the transparent electrode surface face each other. Such materials which allow the heating and sealing by the irradiation with the laser, for example, hot meltable materials, such as hot melt adhesives, hermetically sealable ceramics and glass powder, are usable as the sealing material to be used. Gaseous lasers, such as CO2 laser, solid lasers, and semiconductor lasers are usable as the laser beam source. The condition, such as kinds, intensity and irradiation time of the laser beam are properly set by the kind, thickness, width, etc., of the sealing material. The sure sealing of only the peripheral edge parts of the substrates in a short period of time is possible in this way.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material having excellent resistance to heat, light, water and organic solvents, and capable of forming a highly reliable developed color recorded image which can be read even in a near infrared region, by incorporating a specified catechol derivative and a ferric salt of an organic acid as main color forming components. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording material comprises a catechol derivative of formula (I) and a ferric salt of an organic acid as main color forming components. Typical preferable examples of the organic acid for constituting the ferric salt include a carboxylic acid such as a fatty acid, particularly, a 10-22C carboxylic acid, a 4-20C dibasic fatty acid, and an iron salt of an amino acid, such as threonine-iron. When the thermal recording sheet is heated to about 100-300 deg.C, a dark brown or light brown developed color recorded image is formed which can be read in visible and near infrared regions. The recorded image is extremely excellent in resistance to heat and solvents and free of any discoloration under solar rays, and non-image areas have extremely excellent resistance to water, solvents, heat and light.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply produce the subject compound useful as an intermediate raw material for highly functional fluororesins in a high yield by reacting a tetrafluorobenzen-o-dicarboxylic acid precursor with an alkali metal iodide in a polar solvent. SOLUTION: A tetrafluorobenzene-o-dicarboxylic acid precursor of formula I (X is CN or COOR; R is a 1-5C alkyl) (e.g. tetrafluorobenzene-o-dicarbonitrile) is reacted with an alkali metal iodide of the formula MI (M is an alkali metal) (preferably sodium iodide or potassium iodide) in a polar solvent (preferably dimethylformamide) to provide 2,2',5,5',6,6'-hexafluorobiphenyl-3,3',-4,4'- tetracarboxylic acid precursor of formula II. In the reaction, the alkali metal iodide is preferably used in an amount of 0.9-1.5 times based on the compound of formula I and the polar solvent is preferably used in an amount of 300-5000ml based on 1mol compound of formula I and the reaction is preferably carried out at 100-150 deg.C for 0.5-8hr.

CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of the formula is obtained by iodating methoxymethylbenzene with iodine and iodic acid. The amounts of iodine and iodic acid used are 1/3mol based on methoxymethylbenzene, respectively. The reaction is preferably carried out by using a nonvolatile protonic acid such as p-toluenesulfonic acid as an acid catalyst and a fatty acid such as acetic acid as a solvent at 60-90 deg.C for 8-12 hours.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve moisture resistance and to enhance long-term reliability by packing satd. hydrocarbons into the spacing between the polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layers. CONSTITUTION:Picture element electrodes 3 and signal electrodes 4 are disposed at spaced intervals on a 1st substrate 2 and both are electrically connected by varistors 5. Scanning electrodes 7 are disposed to face the picture elements 3 on a 2nd substrate 6. The polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layer 8 are disposed and crimped between the 1st substrate 2 and the 2nd substrate 6 so as to correspond to the picture electrodes 3. The satd. hydrocarbons 9 are packed into the spacings between the respective polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layers 8. The satd. hydrocarbons are highly effective in moistureproofness and no adverse influence is exerted on the liquid crystal, dye, etc., and further, have an effect of enhancing the insulating characteristic between the varistors and the scanning electrodes. The long-term reliability is improved in this way.
