    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject polyimide giving molded products having excellent mechanical strengths by subjecting an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid component, an aromatic diamine component containing a specific aromatic diamine compound as a main component and an aromatic dicarboxylic anhydride component to a polymerization reaction and subsequently to an imitation reaction. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic tetracarboxylic acid component comprising a 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid and a 2,3,3',4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid in a molar ratio of 85:15 to 0:100, (B) an aromatic diamine component mainly comprising an aromatic diamine compound of the formula (n is 0-4) (e.g. a diaminodiphenyl ether) and (C) an aromatic dicarboxylic anhydride component are subjected to a polymerization reaction and subsequently to an imitation reaction to provide the objective polyimide having a reducing viscosity of 0.25-1.0 (in N-methylpyrrolidone, at 30 deg.C, 0.5g/dl) and moldable at
