Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to signal operated tools for milling, drilling, and/or fishing operations. In one embodiment, a mud motor for use in a wellbore includes: a stator; a rotor, the stator and rotor operable to rotate the rotor in response to fluid pumped between the rotor and the stator; and a lock. The lock is operable to: rotationally couple the rotor to the stator in a locked position, receive an instruction signal from the surface, release the rotor in an unlocked position, and actuate from the locked position to the unlocked position in response to receiving the instruction signal.

When a shoulder contact is detected, a predetermined torque value and/or rotation value is added to the measured torque and/or rotation values, respectively, at shoulder contact and rotation continued until this calculated value(s) is reached.

Abstract: SIGNAL OPERATED TOOLS FOR MILLING, DRILLING, AND/OR FISHING A disconnect tool (1000) for use in a string of tubulars, comprising: a tubular mandrel (1010) having a threaded inner surface; a tubular housing (1005) having a plurality of openings formed radially through a wall thereof; an arcuate dog (1015) disposed in each opening, each dog (1015) having an inclined inner surface and a portion of a thread (1065t) corresponding to the mandrel thread (1060t) and radially movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position, wherein each thread portion (1065t) engages the mandrel thread (1060t) in the engaged position, thereby longitudinally and rotationally coupling the housing (1005) and the mandrel (1010); a tubular (1040) sleeve longitudinally movable between a locked position and an unlocked position and having an inclined outer surface for engagement with the inclined inner surface of each dog (1015), wherein: the sleeve (1040) engages the dogs (1015) with the mandrel thread in the locked position, and the mandrel (1010), housing (1005), and sleeve (1040) define a flow bore through the disconnect tool (1000); a first (1078) spring biasing (1040) the sleeve toward the locked position; second springs (1082), each second spring biasing the respective dog (1015) toward the disengaged position; and an actuator (1075) comprising: a battery (314); a receiver (302) operable to receive an instruction signal; and a controller (310) operable to facilitate disengagement of the sleeve (1040) from the dogs (1015) in response to receipt of the instruction signal.

Abstract: The present invention generally provides a method for remotely controlling and/or monitoring at least one parameter of well bore equipment. In one aspect, a method for remotely controlling and/or monitoring at least one parameter of well bore equipment is provided, including: collecting data corresponding to the at least one parameter by a sensor module monitoring the at least one parameter of the well bore equipment; transmitting the collected data to a remote control/monitoring unit via a communication link; analyzing the collected data to determine if the parameter is within predefined limits; if the parameter is not within predefined limits, then transmitting control data from the control/monitoring unit to the well bore equipment for modifying the operation of the well operation equipment so that the parameter will conform to the predefined limits or stopping operation of the wellbore equipment.
