In one aspect of the invention, a thermite containing apparatus (160) is run into the wellbore (105) on a wire line and a window is subsequently formed in casing wall. In another aspect of the invention, the apparatus includes a run-in string or drill stem (110) with a drill bit (120) attached to a lower end thereof. A diverter (130), like a whipstock is attached temporarily to the drill bit with a mechanically shearable connection (132). At a lower end of the whipstock, a container (160) is formed and connected thereto. A telescopic joint (200) extends between the bottom of the container and an anchor (280) therebelow. The assembly allow to form a window and drill a lateral in a single trip.
Abstract:
In one aspect, a method of communicating between an on-site location and an off-site location is provided. The method comprising providing a communications attachment that can be positioned at the on-site location. A 2 or more-way communication system is established between the on-site location and the off-site location. The actions of the on-site location are remotely monitored by input from the off-site location. In another aspect, an apparatus comprises an off-site service computer, a communications attachment, and a communications system. The communications attachment is positioned an on-site location. A communication system between the communications attachment and the off-site service computer. In one aspect, the communications attachment is secured to a hardhat. One aspect of the communications attachment provides for communication between a person located on-site and an off-site service person for failure analysis of a complex system.

A wellbore system with a tubular string extending from an earth surface down into a wellbore in the earth, a packer system with a selectively settable packer element, and a disconnect located between an end of the tubular string and the packer system, the disconnect operable from the surface by imposing a downward force on the tubular string. In one aspect the packer system's packer element is a tension-set packer element. A wellbore disconnect with a top sub (122), a mandrel (126) having an upper end secured to the top sub and a portion below the upper end releasably secured with at least one releasable member (138) to a carrier member (136), the carrier member having apparatus (156) for selectively gripping the mandrel, the apparatus for selectively gripping the mandrel also selectively gripping a bottom sub (144) within which the mandrel is moveable, the at least one releasable member releasable in response to a downward force on the disconnect.
Abstract:
The invention provides an apparatus (300, 400) for actuating a downhole tool (700) by utilizing a pressure differential created by fluid flowing through a restriction in a conduit (315). The conduit is in communication with a pressure sensing line (400) that is selectively exposable to areas of near the restriction in the conduit (316, 317) having different pressures. By exposing the pressure sensing line to a portion of the conduit having a predetermined pressure therein, the pressure sensing line causes actuation of a hydraulic tool therebelow. The apparatus is of particular use for a single trip sidetrack system in combination with an MWD-tool, a whipstock, and an anchor packer without a bypass valve.

An apparatus for expanding a liner patch in a tubular to seal a hole therein, said apparatus comprising a body (134, 206, 306) having a top portion (133, 209, 309), a bottom portion (146, 229, 336) and a middle portion, the middle portion having an outer diameter greater than the top portion and an outer diameter greater than the bottom portion; a first set of fingers (135, 208, 308) disposed around the top portion of said body and a second set of fingers (156, 228, 335) disposed around the bottom portion of said body; the arrangement being such that, in use, said fingers can be urged radially outwardly by displacement thereof over said middle portion.

The present invention provides for an apparatus and methods to prevent an operator from inadvertently dropping a string (210) into a wellbore (180) during assembling and disassembling of tubulars. Additionally, the apparatus and methods can be used to for running in casing, running in wellbore components or for a drill string.

Oppfinnelsen vedrører et apparat for å forbinde en styreledning til en rørstreng. I en utførelsesform inkluderer apparatet en styrebom som er svingbar omkring en lokalitet inntil rørstrengen og med et styreelement ved en ende derav for å styre styreledningen. Apparatet inkluderer videre en klemmebom som er uavhengig svingbar og som inkluderer et klemmehus ved en ende derav for å klemme styreledningen mot rørstrengen. Styrebommen og klemmebommen har hver en senterlinje som er hovedsakelig innrettet på linje med senterlinjen av rørstrengen og tillater at styreledningen kan innrettes på linje inntil rørstrengen før fastklemming.

A method and system of forming a lateral wellbore in a time and trip saving manner using a mill/drill to locate and place a casing window. In one aspect of the invention, a lateral wellbore is drilled with liner which is subsequently left in the lateral wellbore to line the sides thereof. In another aspect, the mill/drill is rotated with a rotary steerable system and in another aspect, the mill/drill is rotated with a downhole motor or a drill stem.
