Abstract: In an electrostatographic copying system wherein a toner image is transferred from an original image support surface to a copy surface by an electrically biased transfer member generating a transfer field, the transfer field is tailored by providing a photoconductive layer in the transfer area, which layer is illuminated, to render it conductive, in the nip and post-nip areas, but not in the pre-nip area. Belt transfer systems are disclosed utilizing this arrangement.

Abstract: A cleaning station (58) for removing toner and particulates from a fusing member (50) has first and second cleaning rollers (259,260) rollingly engaging the fusing member (50). Each cleaning roller (259,260) has a roller surface coated with a layer of tacky toner (262,263). Each roller (259,260) further defines an internal receiver (264) for collecting excess toner and particulates, and has an aperture (266) forming a fluid passage between the reservoir (264) and the surface of the roller (260). A synchronization assembly synchronizes the rotation of the rollers so the second cleaning roller cleans the portions of the fusing member (50) uncleaned by the first cleaning roller due to the aperture (266) in the surface of the first cleaning roller (260).

Abstract: An intermediate transfer belt with a mechanically and electrically invisib le seam formed by joining two ends of the belt at a seam. Two regions of the be lt are thus formed, a seam region at and around the seam and a far region away from the seam. The seam region has good electrical property correspondence (as explained in the patent) with the far region and a lateral resistivity greater than 108 ohms/square. The joining of the belt can occur along a kerf.
