    Abstract: Disclosed is a display comprising an arrangement of a plurality of optically anisotropic rotatable elements, each of the rotatable elements having a surface in contact with an enabling fluid, the rotatable elements being electrically dipolar in the presence of the enabling fluid and thus being subject to rotation upon application of an electric field, the rotatable elements being free to rotate in place but not free to translate substantially so as to disrupt the arrangement of rotatable elements, wherein a first portion of the surface contains a mixture of a chelating agent and a spiropyran material of the formula or wherein n is an integer representing the number of repeat -CH2- units and R is -H or -CH=CH2, and wherein a second portion of the surface contains substantially no spiropyran.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a simple and economic method for directly manufacturing black and colored toner compositions having superior dispersibility of a colorant and narrow particle diameter distribution by mixing a latex-emulsified liquid and a colorant-dispersed liquid and a monocationic salt and specifying the ionic strength. SOLUTION: The toner is manufactured by mixing the latex-emulsified liquid and the colorant-dispersed liquid and a monocationic salt and cooling them, if necessary, and adjusting its ionic strength to about 0.001 - about 5 mol, and adding, preferably, a sodium sulfonated polyester resin having a particle diameter of a bout 5 - about 500 nm to the latex, and adding a monocationic salt solution to a mixture of the latex and the colorant and cooling it. The latex- emulsified liquid contains the polyester resin, such as poly(1,2-propylene-sodium 5-sulfoisophthalate), and the salt is sodium chloride, sodium bromide, potassium bromide, or potassium chloride.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a process of preparing a toner having a small volume average particle diameter, a narrow particle size distribution and excellent glossiness. SOLUTION: The toner is prepd. through a step for heating a mixture of an emulsion latex, a colorant and an org. complexing agent in the absence of a surfactant. In a preferable way, the emulsion latex contains a sulfonated polyester resin and the resin particles contained in the emulsion latex and the colorant are aggregated and agglomerated by the heating of the org. complexing agent and then the formed toner is cooled and separated.
