Abstract:
A process for preparing a hydrocyanation catalyst comprising contacting a bidentate phosphorous-containing ligand with nickel chloride in the presence of a nitrile solvent and a reducing metal which is more electropositive than nickel the nickel chloride being introduced as an aqueous solution and the water being removed concurrently with the reduction reaction by azeotropic distillation.
Abstract:
This document describes biochemical pathways for producing 2(E)-heptenedioyl-CoA methyl ester from precursors such as 2-oxo-glutarate, acetyl-CoA, or succinyl-CoA using one or more of a fatty acid O-methyltransferase, a thioesterase, a CoA-transferase, a CoA ligase , as well as recombinant hosts expressing one or more of such enzymes. 2(E)-heptenedioyl-CoA methyl ester can be enzymatically converted to pimeloyl-CoA using a trans-2-enoyl-CoA reductase , and a methylesterase . Pimeloyl-CoA can be enzymatically converted to pimelic acid, 7-aminoheptanoate, 7-hydroxyheptanoate, heptamethylenediamine, or 1,7-heptanediol.
Abstract:
An autoclave heating jacket including a heating fluid collar (200), a fluid inlet (120), a fluid outlet (122), and a plurality of fluid flow baffles (202, 204, 206) is claimed. The heating fluid collar (200) can have an outer wall (208) which includes an upper contact surface (210) and a lower contact surface (212) forming an enclosed chamber when engaged with an outer surface of an autoclave. The fluid inlet (120) can be oriented through the outer wall and is capable of directing a heating fluid into the enclosed chamber. The fluid outlet (122) can be oriented through the outer wall but is capable of directing the heating fluid out of the enclosed chamber. The plurality of fluid flow baffles (202, 204, 206) can be oriented within the enclosed chamber so as to direct the heating fluid along a predetermined pathway within the enclosed chamber. Also claimed is a polymerization autoclave comprising said heating jacket and a heating conduit, as well as a method of repairing such an autoclave by replacing some of the weakened or leaking coil segments with said heating jacket.
Abstract:
Included is a stretchable fabric composite laminate, which includes two outer layers of fabric with a bonded inner layer of elastomeric fibers. The stretchable fabric composite laminate is attached to the garment fabric as an edgeband or strap or within an edgeband or strap to provide a more comfortable garment or greater fit range.
Abstract:
Adiponitrile is made by reacting 3-pentenenitrile with hydrogen cyanide. The 3- pentenenitrile is made by reacting 1,3-butadiene with hydrogen cyanide. The 1,3- butadiene feed includes a small amount of tertiary-butylcatechol. The catalyst for the reaction of 1,3-butadiene with hydrogen cyanide to make 3-pentenenitrile is recycled. At least a portion of the recycled catalyst is purified by an extraction process.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for hydrolyzing water-insoluble epoxides, and more particularly to a process for preparing diols. Specifically disclosed is a method for preparing 4-vinylcyclohexane-1,2-diol, 1,2-cyclohexane diol and 1,2-cyclododecane diol.
Abstract:
A method for recovering hexamethylene diamine (HMD) from a mixture comprising HMD, 6-aminocapronitrile (ACN) tetrahydroazepine (THA), and ADN comprising: (a) introducing the mixture into a distillation column capable of separating as a group the HMD, ACN and at least a portion of the THA from the ADN, while minimizing the isomerization of the ADN into CPI; and (b) introducing the HMD, ACN and at least a portion of the THA into a distillation column capable of separating the HMD from the ACN in such a way that the THA separates along with the ACN.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a multi-filament yarn formed at least in part from filaments having cross-sectional zig-zag or double “W “shape with a 180 degree axis of symmetry. The filaments have a denier per filament generally in the range of about 0.1 to about 4.0. Fabrics made from yarns formed with the filaments have high moisture wicking, soft hand, and silk-like lustrous appearance.
Abstract:
Polyurethane particles dispersed in water can be used to make articles of commerce with reduced chance of chemical and biological allergic reaction to skin, and which exhibit improved puncture and tear resistance when compared to gloves made with other materials.
Abstract:
A method for producing a spliced yarn comprising alternating predetermined lengths of a first and a second yarn and to the yarn are disclosed.A predetermined length of a first yarn is drawn through an intermingling jet. A leading portion of a second yarn is forwarding into the intermingling jet and into overlapping relationship with a trailing portion of the first yarn. Using a pressurized fluid the overlapped portions of the first and second yarns are intermingled, thereby to splice the leading portion of second yarn to the trailing portion of the first yarn. The first yarn is then severed, and the spliced portion and a predetermined length of the second yarn are drawn through the intermingling jet. The cycle is repeated with the second yarn being the currently drawn yarn and the first yarn being forwarded into overlapping relationship therewith.Preferably the yarns are held in the intermingling jet, as by a clamp disposed forwardly of the jet, while the intermingled splice is formed. The pressurized fluid forming the intermingled splice has a pressure in the range from sixty (60) to one hundred (100) pounds per square inch (413.4 to 689.4 Kilopascals), and more preferably, a pressure in the range from sixty (60) to eighty (80) pounds per square inch (413.4 to 551.2 Kilopascals). Each splice so formed must be able to withstand a tension force of at least 6.8 pounds (3.1 kilograms). The predetermined lengths of the first and second yarn may be equal or different. Preferably the first and second yarns are solution dyed to be differently colored.
