A mold level control used with a continuous casting machine having hydraulic motors for withdrawing a cast strand from a mold. The system includes a stem servo-controlled pump supplying fluid to the motors, a piston actuating the stem to control pump output, and a four-way self-centering solenoid valve to control piston movement. Movement of a joystick up or down closes microswitches to operate the valve to decrease or increase strand withdrawal rate respectively. Between joystick movements and valve centers itself and strand withdrawal rate remains steady.

Provided are an apparatus and method for predicting slab quality including a plurality of meniscus height detecting units prepared in a plurality of region on a top side of a mold receiving molten steel, and detecting a meniscus height of the molten steel, a meniscus flow detecting unit creating a meniscus flow pattern using meniscus heights at the plurality of regions, which are detected by the plurality of meniscus height detecting units, a data storage unit storing the meniscus flow pattern and quality data of a slab produced accordingly and a slab quality predicting unit extracting the meniscus flow pattern detected by the meniscus flow detecting unit and consequent slab quality from the data storage unit to predict slab quality.
Abstract:
An inert gas flow is introduced into a molten metal bath at a location in a vessel. The absolute pressure of the gas flow through the molten metal other than zero flow is determined. The pressure acting on the surface of the bath is measured and the difference between the surface pressure and the absolute pressure is determined. The difference in converted into a distance measurement that reflects the actual distance between the surface of the bath and the location of introduction of the gas flow into the bath. The distance measurement is compared with a predetermined desired distance value and a resultant measurement is formed therefrom. The level of the bath is regulated as a function of the resultant measurement. The resultant measurement is converted into an electric setting signal and sent to a setting member for regulating the level of the bath and/or the amount flowing out of or withdrawn from the vessel.
Abstract:
A method of continuously casting steel in which a melt is introduced through a movable immersion nozzle. The method includes the steps of controlling the start of the casting process in connection with the withdrawal of the casting by starting the withdrawal of the casting upon reaching a desired height of the surface of the steel in the mold, and driving the casting from the mold at a desired casting removal speed via a control element in a predetermined manner. Further, the method includes measuring the position of the bath level as it ascends in the mold during the continuous casting and adjusting the position of the immersion nozzle in relation to the ascending bath level from a first position to a desired operating position by changing the position of the distributor. Lastly, the method includes determining the desired operating position of the immersion nozzle with respect to the upper edge of the mold as a function of the temperature of the steel melt, the quality of the steel, the K-value of the solidification of the casting and the bath level, so as to establish, during the casting, a spacing of the outer lower edge of the immersion nozzle between a solidification front of the casting and the bath level.

A SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING THE MOLD LIQUID LEVEL IN A CONTINUOUS CASTING PROCESS WITH A POUR BOX AND A DEGASSING VESSEL BETWEEN A HOT METAL LADLE AND THE MOLD. THE CONTROLLER CYCLES THE PUR BOX LEVEL WITHIN A PREDETERMINED BAND BY OPENING THE LADLE STOPPER WHEN THE LIQUID LEVEL REACHES THE LOWER LIMIT AND CLOSING THE LADLE STOPPER WHEN THE LIQUID LEVEL REACHES THE UPER LIMIT. THE LEVEL OF THE BAND IS RESET EACH CYCLE ACCORDING TO THE AMOUNT OF METAL CAST DURING THE PREVIOUS CYCLE.

본 발명은 주편 품질 예측 장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것으로, 용강을 공급받아 수용하는 주형 상측의 복수 영역에 마련되어 용강의 탕면 높이를 검출하는 복수의 탕면 높이 검출부와, 탕면 높이 검출부로부터 검출된 복수 영역에서의 탕면의 높이를 이용하여 탕면 유동 패턴을 생성하는 탕면 유동 검출부와, 탕면 유동 패턴과 그에 따라 생산되는 주편의 품질 데이터를 저장하는 데이터 저장부와, 탕면 유동 검출부로부터 검출된 탕면 유동 패턴과 그에 따른 주편 품질을 데이터 저장부로부터 추출하여 주편의 품질을 예측하는 주편 품질 예측부를 포함하는 주편 품질 예측 장치 및 그 방법이 제시된다.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zum Einstellen der Lage der Sumpfspitze in einem Gießstrang auf Höhe eines vorbestimmten Ortes innerhalb einer Strangführung einer Stranggießanlage. Das Verfahren sieht das wiederholte Aufgeben eines Impulses auf den Gießstrang an einem fest vorgegebenen Ort innerhalb der Strangführung bei jeweils geänderten Gießgeschwindigkeiten vor. Während der Wiederholungen wird eine erste Gießgeschwindigkeit V1 detektiert, bei welcher der auf den Gießstrang aufgegebenen Impuls keine Reaktion am Badspiegel auslöst. Und es wird eine zweite Gießgeschwindigkeit V2 detektiert, welche im Vergleich zu der ersten Geschwindigkeit größer ist und bei welcher der auf den Gießstrang aufgegebene Impuls die Reaktion am Badspiegel auslöst. Die Einstellung der Sumpfspitze in dem Gießstrang näherungsweise auf Höhe des fest vorgegebenen Ortes der Impulsaufgabe erfolgt dann durch Gießen des Gießstrangs mit einer Geschwindigkeit VS für die gilt: V1 kleiner VS kleiner gleich V2.

Equipment for casting metal, in particular aluminium ingots for rolling purposes, comprising a casting mould (20) with a mould wall (1) with a heat-resistant, insulating inlet or "hot-top" (2) for supply of liquid metal (3) and an outlet with cooling devices (4, 11) for cooling the metal to be cast and a movable support (18). The hot-top (2) is arranged at a distance from the wall (1) of the casting mould, the space (6) thus formed is closed at the top by means of a cover or plate (7) so that it is mainly gastight and the space (6) is designed for the supply/removal of any gas or gas mixture under a specific pressure.
