Abstract:
A planar micro parallel-link mechanism that provides fine planar motion to a platform in two translation directions and one rotation direction using comb-drive actuators with gear chain systems coupled to rack-and-pinions and struts. The micro parallel-link mechanism has a large operating envelope and can be fabricated using surface micromachining techniques. The kinematic and dynamic analyses of the micro parallel-link mechanism are integrated with closed-loop control system to monitor and supervise the position and velocity of the micro mechanism with three degree-of freedom motions. Methods of depositing and building miniaturized tools and parts on the platform are also disclosed to provide the basic building block for a number of products applicable for nano technology, sensor, actuators, and biotechnology applications.

Third and fourth suspension members couple the primary movable member to the secondary movable member. A lever assembly is provided and has a pivot and a lever coupled to and pivotable about the pivot. The lever has a first extremity coupled to the primary movable member and an opposite second extremity. The secondary movable member is coupled to the lever between the first extremity and the pivot.
Abstract:
A microelectrical mechanical systems actuator that provides a long throw is disclosed. The actuator includes a drive mechanism that oscillates a pallet that is located between leg portions of a drive member. The pallet includes first and second rows of pallet teeth located along two opposite edges of the pallet. The drive member is slideably coupled to a substrate, and includes first and second rows of drive teeth that are located along two opposing drive margins of the drive member leg portions. The pallet teeth and the drive teeth are compatible so as to permit meshing engagement of the pallet teeth with the drive teeth. The pallet is arranged between the rows of drive teeth. When the pallet teeth are meshingly misaligned with respective drive teeth and the pallet is urged against the drive margin, the drive member is forced to move until the teeth meshingly engage. By arranging the pallet and drive teeth so that first and second respective sets of pallet and drive teeth can not simultaneously be in meshing alignment, the drive member may be incrementally moved by oscillating the pallet edges between the first and second drive margins. The shape of the pallet and drive teeth may be selected to control a step size of the movement increment and the force applied. Further, the pallet and drive teeth may be arranged so as to provide movement in one direction or two directions.
Abstract:
A micromechanical structure has a first micromechanical element, a second micromechanical element and a torsion spring arrangement having a first torsion spring element, having a first center line, mechanically connected to the first micromechanical element at a first contact region and to the second micromechanical element at a second contact region, and having a second torsion spring element, having a second center line, mechanically connected to the first micromechanical member at a third contact region and to the second micromechanical member at a fourth contact region in order to connect the first micromechanical member and the second micromechanical member to be movable relative to each other. A distance between the first and second center lines, starting from the first and third contact regions toward the second and fourth contact regions, decreases in a first portion and increases in a second portion. In a rest position of the micromechanical structure, the first and second torsion spring elements are arranged without contact to each other.
Abstract:
An actuator comprising two devices each comprising an out-of-plane deformable element, said deformable element comprising a first fixed end anchored on a substrate and a second free end relative to the substrate, said device also comprising means to guide the second free end in in-plane translation along a first direction, the first deformable element being capable of deforming out-of-plane through application of a stimulus so that the second free end draws close to the first fixed end following in-plane translational movement. The actuator also comprises an element mobile in rotation about an axis orthogonal to the plane and mechanically linked to the free ends of the deformable elements, and a translationally mobile element mechanically linked to the rotationally mobile element.
Abstract:
A space curve mesh driving pair and a polyhedral space curve mesh transmission are disclosed. Said space curve mesh driving pair consists of a driving wheel and a driven wheel. Axes of the driving wheel and the driven wheel are intersected at an angle of 0°˜180°, and power transmission is realized by continuous mesh between the driving tines and the driven tines; a number of driving tines are provided on said driving wheel, and a number of driven tines are provided on the driven wheel; the driving tines are uniformly arranged on an end face of a cylinder of the driving wheel, and the driven tines are uniformly arranged on the circumference of a cylindrical surface of the driven wheel. Said polyhedral space curve mesh transmission consists of an above-mentioned space curve mesh driving pair. Motion is input from an input end, and is passed through a number of pace curve mesh driving pairs to realize the speed change, then is output from one or more output ends. Wherein, the space curve mesh driving pair is the core of the transmission. The invention has the advantages of compact structure, small size, light weight, stable transmission and flexible operation, and can be widely used in micro-mechanism field.
