The present invention provides a lubricating composition comprising: an oil of lubricating viscosity; 3 wt % to 30 wt % of an alkaline earth or alkali metal sulphonate detergent; and an oil-soluble polyalkylene glycol having a distribution of molecular weight such that the molecules thereof have a weight of 2500 to less than 10,000 Daltons and comprise 0.05 wt % to 3 wt % of the lubricating composition. The invention further provides a method of lubricating a 2-stroke internal combustion engine cylinder liner (and piston) with the lubricating composition.
Abstract:
A solid fibrous material for use in thickening a lubricating fluid comprises a plurality of loose fibres and/or a non-woven mat of fibres, which comprise a first polymer-based material and are coated, suspended, embedded or encapsulated in a second polymer-based material. The first polymer-based material is oleophilic, is at least substantially insoluble in the lubricating fluid at a normal operating temperature of the lubricating fluid and is capable of increasing the viscosity of the lubricating fluid. The second polymer-based material is at least substantially soluble in the lubricating fluid and/or has a melting temperature below the melting temperature of the first polymer-based material. A method for forming a thickened lubricant comprises dispersing the solid fibrous material into the lubricating fluid and dissolving and/or melting the second polymer-based material. A thickened lubricant formed according to this method is also disclosed.

The invention pertains to a method of forming a lubricating film on a surface, said method comprising applying to a surface a multiphasic composition comprising at least one (per) fluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricant, water and from 0.1 to 3 % by weight of water of at least one thickening agent, said multiphasic composition having a viscosity, when measured at 21 °C at a shear rate of 1 sec -1 of at least 10 Pa*S so as to form a layer, and drying said layer to form a lubricating film. By the use of the multiphasic composition as above detailed it is advantageously possible to convoy the PFPE lubricant to the surface to be lubricated using application techniques (doctor blade, metering rod,...) as those suitable for solid-like greases, while the actual conveyed lubricant behaves in lubrication as an oil, avoiding the use of fluorinated solvents.

본 발명은 표면에 윤활막을 형성하는 방법에 관한 것으로, 상기 방법은 1종 이상의 (퍼)플루오로폴리에테르(PFPE) 윤활제, 물, 및 물을 기준으로 0.1 내지 3 중량%에 해당하는 1종 이상의 증점제를 포함하는 다상 조성물을 표면에 도포하여 하나의 층을 형성하는 단계; 및 상기 층을 건조시켜 윤활막을 형성하는 단계를 포함하며, 여기서 상기 다상 조성물은 21℃에서 1 sec -1 의 전단율로 측정하였을 때 10 Pa x sec 이상의 역학 점도를 가진다. 위에 상술된 다상 조성물을 사용함으로써, 유리하게는 PFPE 윤활제를 윤활대상 표면에 고체성 그리스에 적합한 것과 같은 도포 기법(닥터 블레이드, 미터링 로드,...)을 이용하여 전달할 수 있는 한편, 실제 전달된 윤활제는 윤활액에서 오일처럼 거동함에 따라, 불소화 용매 사용을 막을 수 있다.
