    Abstract: According to one aspect, embodiments herein provide a sensing device comprising an accelerometer configured to monitor acceleration of the sensing device and provide acceleration information including a value of the acceleration of the sensing device, and an Integrated Circuit (IC) coupled to the accelerometer, the IC configured to receive the acceleration information from the accelerometer and render the sensing device permanently inoperable in response to the value of the acceleration of the sensing device exceeding a threshold indicative of a military application of the sensing device.

    Abstract: A sterilization system consisting of a mobile emitter, a sensing subsystem and a data logging subsystem is described. The emitter has one or more UV emitting lamps or devices. The sensing system comprises at least one remote UV sensor and at least one door sensor. The door sensor comprises a safety shut off door detector and may contain an emergency stop detector and arming detector to protect people from being exposed to UV energy. The system has a remote control for starting, stopping and setting system parameters which include but are not limited to: treatment time, dosage, room size, room number, unit number, floor, facility name, operator name, operator identification number, password, default dosage values, dosage, and patient identification number. The number of treatments per unit of time can be maximized because of the use of incident light measurement.

    Abstract: A laser power meter has a laser-radiation absorber body of metal formed with a rotationally symmetrical depression open at the radiation-receiving side of the body. At the bottom of the depression a copper reflector of a cone shape is received. The body can be connected to a lid housing the detection and display circuitry by a joint which can be locked and from which tubes can run to the body and lid to carry the electrical conductors.

    Abstract: In a surface reflectance meter (Fig. 2) for directing light to a surface (201, 202, 203) receiving light reflected from the surface (209, 210) and measuring the rate of change of light flux upon withdrawal of a light chopper (204) from the optical path (103), a fault detection means (Figs. 9, 10) which detects and indicates a fault in the flux rate of change measurement. In the preferred embodiment the rate of change of flux is detected by measuring the time (630) for the light intensity to increase from a first predetermined intensity (610) to a second predetermined intensity (620) and the fault detector means (Figs. 9 or 10) detects and indicates a fault when the light intensity does not reach the second predetermined intensity (620) within a predetermined period of time (630). The surface reflectance meter is reset for repetition of the measurement upon indication of a fault. This invention is useful in portable surface reflectance meters which must be hand held to the surface to be measured, because instability in holding the meter to the surface can cause the fault.
