Abstract:
A disk drive (11) has a head cleaner (25) which cleans the heads (18, 19) each time the heads are moved from an operating position to a park position. The heads are slidably mounted to move into engagement with a disk (13) when a cartridge (10) containing the disk is inserted into the drive. When the heads are retracted to the park position, a wiper pad (27) is inserted into the gap between the magnetic heads. This removes unwanted particulate matter from the heads.
Abstract:
Apparatus for cleaning microfloppy disc drive heads comprises two leaves (38a, 38b) forming an openable shell (38) and a replaceable disc of cleaning material (not shown) sandwiched between the leaves. At least one leaf has an aperture (16) through which a disc drive head (not shown) may contact a said cleaning disc when the shell containing the cleaning disc is inserted into the disc drive. Preferably the leaves of the shell are hinged together.
Abstract:
The cleaning cassette is intended to clean magnetic heads of apparatus operating with magnetic cassettes, for example cassette recorders, and is provided with a mechanically operated cleaning member (18) which cleans the parts to be cleaned. In order to impregnate the cleaning member, preferably a driven cleaning tape (18) directly during the cleaning process with a cleaning liquid, the casing (10) of the cassette is provided with a hollow chamber (12) intended to contain the cleaning liquid. The latter is conveyed through a metering unit (16) up to the cleaning tape (18) by means of an outlet valve (40). The metering unit (16) and the outlet valve (40) deliver cleaning liquid to the cleaning tape (19) only when the latter is rotatingly driven by the drive mechanism (58, 72) of the apparatus. The cleaning tape (18) impregnated with cleaning liquid comes into contact with the parts of the drive mechanism (58, 72) and with the magnetic heads (56) to be cleaned.
Abstract:
A cleaning device for a magnetic tape recorder head (4) has a Mylar base (1) coated by a low-adhesive layer (2). A Dacron mesh member (9) is combined to the base (1) via the layer (2). When the member (9) is moved so as to cross the contacting surface of the tape recorder head (4), it acts as a mechanical cleaning surface. The layer (2) acts to tightly secure the respective strands (5) of the member (9) at predetermined positions to be correctly supported when they are contacted with the head (4) and also to collect and suppress the scattering of the magnetic powder separated from the head (4) by the strands (5) of the member (9). A raised part (3) extending from the lower layer base (1) may be formed as a projecting pattern.
Abstract:
A cleaning tape (10) for cleaning a magnetic tape head and tape path, having a non-abrasive cleaning surface (19) with abrasive segments (18) applied on the non-abrasive surface to form an alternating pattern. The abrasive segments may be angled across the surface of the non-abrasive cleaning surface. The abrasive segments loosen adhered debris and the non-abrasive segments carry the loose and loosened debris away from the head and the tape path.
Abstract:
An apparatus for cleaning a video cassette player/recorder machine is disclosed. The apparatus is for cleaning a machine that has a recess to receive a tape cassette (12), a rotating head drum (30), a plurality of guide members (46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56) movable between a nonoperating position and an operating position, and a spool-brake deactivator pin (78). The apparatus of the invention includes a housing (112), an activation mechanism (138, 140, 142, 162), and a cleaning element (148). The housing is adapted to be positioned in the recess of the machine. The activation mechanism is engaged and moved by the spool-brake deactivator pin when the housing is positioned in the recess of the machine. Engagement with the spool-brake deactivator pin causes the activation mechanism to move the cleaning element into contact with the video head drum. The apparatus also includes two spools (120, 122) rotatably coupled within the housing and a cleaning ribbon (124) attached to the spools. The cleaning ribbon is positioned within the housing to be engaged by the guide members of the machine such that it contacts one side of the rotating head drum when the guide members are in an engaged positioned.
Abstract:
A cassette device for cleaning portions of a video cassette recorder is provided. The cassette device includes a first fluid applicator (66) and a second fluid applicator (78), the second fluid applicator (78) positioned to wet a portion of tape (14) spaced from the portion wetted by the first applicator (66). Preferably, the second applicator (78) also acts to position the tape (14) to be spaced from the scanner (16) in one circumferential portion of the scanner (16). A device (68) is provided for contacting the tape (14) along a defined circumferential portion of the first applicator (66) to assure substantially continuous rotation of the first applicator (66) without direct-driving the first applicator.
Abstract:
The maintenance disk (1) is intended to overcome problems arising from the need to clean the sensing heads of the disk drive regularly, whether using wet solvents where residue can remain in the drive and effect future insertions of a programmed disk, or dry abrasives which wear down the heads. The disk is characterised by a cleaning area (6) provided with an appropriate material for effecting cleaning, a calibration area (5) containing data for checking the condition of the sensing heads of said disk drive, and a program area (4) having a program which is operable to display a range of tests available at said calibration area and to enable the user to select the test required, said range of tests including a measurement of signal strength to assess whether or not head cleaning is necessary, and said program enabling the cleaning area to be brought into contact with the heads for a time duration to effect cleaning. Thus, the invention enables "intelligent" cleaning to take place in a simple and efficient manner using a single floppy disc.
Abstract:
A process for cleaning magnetic heads is implemented by means of a magnetic tape (10) which comprises, in addition to the section (12) coated with a magnetizable material, a terminal cleaning section (13) provided with a coating for mechanical and/or chemical cleaning of the magnetic head. The data read on the magnetic tape are evaluated in order to detect data errors due to dirt on the magnetic head. When such an error is detected, the cleaning section of the tape comes into operation.
