    Abstract: Present in- an electron tube having a glass envelope portion (1) is an electrode system (3) which is slid in the envelope portion (1) and is centred with respect to the wall (7) of the envelope portion (1) by means of a number of pretensioned springs (6). The springs (6) extend from a supporting point B which is fixed with respect to the electrode system (3) over their effective spring length towards the wall (7) of the envelope portion (1) and press against the wall (7) while forming a contact point A. A stick-slip movement of the springs over the surface of the wall (7) during the sliding movement of the electrode system (3) is avoided in that the springs (6) each extend over their effective spring length according to a straight line between supporting point B and contact point A. The occurrence of glass damage to the wall (7) is minimized by the said measure.

    Abstract: A neutral particle generator is disclosed that includes a container which holds a material in at least a partial plasma state, for example a Deuterium plasma. In one form, a first cathode is positioned within the container and produces a first beam of neutral particles directed away from the first cathode. Optionally, a second cathode is also positioned within the container and produces a second beam of neutral particles directed away from the second cathode, and/or a target is also positioned within the container. In one form, the first cathode and the second cathode are linearly opposed so that the first beam interacts/collides with the second beam resulting in fusion reactions of at least some of the neutral particles, which thereby results in generation of emitted neutrons.

    Abstract: A demountable pellet is disclosed for use as an electrode contact assembly. The pellet comprises a base 1 upon which is mounted a plurality of electrodes 18,19,20 arranged in respective spaced parallel planes and having respective contacts 23,24,25 protruding from them. A closure 2 for the base 1 has a member 11,12,13 engaging at least one of the electrode contacts. In an unassembled condition of the pellet, with the closure 2 separate from the base 1 and each closure member disengaged from its respective electrode contact, the contacts 23,24,25 lie in respective spaced parallel planes. In the assembled condition of the pellet with each closure member engaging its respective electrode contact, at least one of the contacts 23,24,25 lies in a plane other than that in which it lay in the unassembled condition of the pellet.

    Abstract: The HID lamp mount has a discharge tube with two ends. A shroud surrounds th e tube. Shroud clips position the shroud ends. The shroud clips have arcuate portion s engaging the shroud periphery and transverse portions spanning the shroud diameter an d grasping and positioning the tube ends. A shroud rod attaches between the clips to maintain their positioning. An electrical lead-in connects the second electrode terminus an d has a first leg extending transversely from the terminus and a second leg extending parallel to the electrode.     Abstract: Arc discharge lamp (10) has a longitudinal axis (12) with an arc tube (14) having a hollow body (16) containing an arc generating and sustaining medium aligned with the axis. The arc tube (14) can be formed of a ceramic material, such as alumina . Electrodes (18) and (20) extend into the hollow body (16), one from each end of the arc tub. The electrodes (18) and (20) and the hollow body (16) are arrayed along the longitudinal axis (12). A sealed shroud (22) surrounds the arc tube and can be evacuated or provided with an inert atmosphere. The shroud (22) and the arc tube (14) form an arc tube assembly (24). A lamp envelope (26) surrounds the arc tube assembly (24), and the envelope includes a base portion (28) including at least one cylindrical part (30). Electrical lead-ins (32, 34) extend through the base portion (28) and mechanically and electrically connect to the arc tube electrodes (18) and (20), as by welding. A strengthening member (36) for preventing the arc tube assembly (24) from displacement from the longitudinal axis (12) as a result of forces applied in a direction substantially normal to the axis (12) is provided within the lamp. The strengthening member (36) comprises an elongat ed element (38) having first and second ends, (40, 42) respectively. The first end (40) is formed tosubstantially engage the arc tube assembly (24), near its upper end , and the second end (42) is formed to substantially engage the base portion (28) of t he arc lamp (10).

    Abstract: 1364844 Discharge tubes EMI Ltd 29 Sept 1971 [28 Oct 1970] 51108/70 Heading H1D In a discharge tube wherein a stack of electrodes is supported by at least one pillar which passes through apertures formed in flanges attached to the electrodes, movement of the stack relative to the pillar 3 is restricted by means of a collar 10 which is fixed to the pillar by deformation of its inner surface. The pillar may be of ceramic material and the collar of stainless steel; the collar is supported at 12 whilst pressure is applied by a hand tool so that the inner surface 11 deforms and grips the pillar. A similar collar may be fixed to the pillar at the opposite end of the electrode stack. The tube described (Fig. 1, not shown) is a photomultiplier with the dynodes stacked with intervening insulating washers on three pillars but the invention is also applicable to cathode-ray tube.

In the assembled condition of the pellet 1 with each closure member engaging its respective electrode contact, at least one of the contacts lies in a plane other than that in which it lay in the unassembled condition of the pellet.
