Abstract: An apparatus for determining alternating current (AC) losses in a superconductor sample is disclosed. The apparatus may comprise a sample holder configured to hold the superconductor sample and a frame configured to support the sample holder. The frame may include a pair of spaced apart parallel walls and may be configured to rotate about an axis of rotation. The apparatus may also comprise a rotor positioned between the pair of spaced apart parallel walls of the frame. The rotor may be configured to rotate about the axis of rotation to generate a magnetic field. Further, the apparatus may comprise an extension arm coupled to the frame and a sensor device configured to detect a force exerted on the sensor device by the extension arm.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of synthesizing long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, in recombinant cells such as yeast or plant cells. Also provided are recombinant cells or plants which produce long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a group of new enzymes which possess desaturase or elongase activity that can be used in methods of synthesizing long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. In particular, the present invention provides ω3 destaurases, Δ5 elongases and Δ6 desaturases with novel activities. Also provided are methods and DNA constructs for transiently and/or stably transforming cells, particularly plant cells, with multiple genes.

Abstract: Aspects described herein generally relate to a sol-gel that is the reaction product of an organosilane, a metal alkoxide, an acid, and a thio-lanthanide salt having a solubility of about 1 gram or greater per gram of sol-gel at 23° C. The thio-lanthanide salt includes a cation and a thio-ligand. The cation can be lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, scandium, yttrium, cobalt, calcium, strontium, barium, and zirconium. In another aspect, a component, such as a vehicle component, includes a metal substrate and a sol-gel disposed on the metal substrate. Methods can include forming a sol-gel by mixing a metal alkoxide and an acid to form a first mixture; mixing with the first mixture an organosilane to form a second mixture; and mixing with the second mixture a lanthanide salt to form a third mixture.

Abstract: The application discloses an X-ray fluorescence system comprising an X-ray source to emit X-ray radiation incident on the sample and a controller to vary an energy of the X-ray radiation incident on the sample between at least a first incident radiation energy and a second incident radiation energy. The system further comprises an X-ray fluorescence detector to detect X-ray radiation fluoresced by the sample in response to the incident X-ray radiation and determine at least: a first fluorescence radiation intensity of X-ray radiation fluoresced by the sample in response to the X-ray radiation incident on the sample at the first incident energy and a second fluorescence radiation intensity of X-ray fluorescence radiation fluoresced by the sample in response to the X-ray radiation incident on the sample at the second incident energy. A method of X-ray fluorescence is also disclosed.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to monitoring processes. A processor creates a numerical representation of a nominal operation of the process. The processor then encrypts the numerical representation using homomorphic encryption to determine an encrypted numerical representation that blocks access to the numerical representation but allows calculations on the numerical representations. The processor proceeds by creating smart contracts on a blockchain platform using the encrypted numerical representation as a first input to the calculations of the smart contract. Next, the processor attempts execution of the smart contract using the current operation of the process as a second input to the calculations of the smart contract. The execution of the smart contract generates an output result by performing the calculations on the encrypted numerical representations. Based on the output of the execution of the smart contract, the processor finally determines that the current operation is outside the nominal operation.
