    Abstract: A clamp (10) for connecting equipment (40) to a rail (50) of a railway track comprises a housing (12) having a platform (14) on which a pair of shock isolators (16, 18) are fixed for mounting the equipment (40). A threaded rod (52) extends from the housing (12) and carries an adjustable claw (54) which co-operates with a fixed claw (42) on the housing to grip the bottom flange of the rail (50) between them and thereby secure the clamp to the rail. An eccentric cant adjustment nut (66) is mounted on the rod (52) between the claws (42 and 54). The isolators (16, 18) include shock absorbing material and electrical insulation material for the purpose of insulating the equipment (40) from the rail (50) and protecting it from mechanical shocks and vibrations.

    Abstract: RAILROAD CAR WHEEL DETECTOR A method is provided for determining whether an output signal from a magnetic railway wheel detector is produced by the actual passage of a wheel over the transducer. The output signal is compared with an amplitude threshold value and the time period between the zero crossing point and the time at which the signal attains amplitude threshold is compared with a time threshold level. The thresholds are set as a function of the speed of the train. Unless the thresholds are exceeded the output signal is disregarded.

    Abstract: A method is provided for determining whether an output signal from a magnetic railway wheel detector is produced by the actual passage of a wheel over the transducer. The output signal is compared with an amplitude threshold value and the time period between the zero crossing point and the time at which the signal attains amplitude threshold is compared with a time threshold level.     Abstract: An optical sensor (10), such as an infrared sensor for detecting overheated wheels or wheel bearing on trains passing along a section of track, comprises an optical system (24) having its receiving optical axis angled (e.g. perpendicularly) to the line of sight of the sensor through a sighting aperture (26). A mirror (30) is pivotally mounted in the line of sight and is movable between a first (operating) position in which it reflects rays travelling along the line of sight to the optical system (24), and a second (aiming) position in which an observer can look through a viewing aperture in the top of the sensor and see through the sighting aperture (26) via the mirror (30). When cross hairs (36) between the viewing aperture and the mirror (30) appear superimposed on cross hairs (38) between the mirror (30) and the sighting aperture (26), the observers' line of sight through the aperture (26) is the same as that of the optical system (24) when the mirror is in the first position, thus permitting the sensor to be aimed accurately and easily at a target.

    Abstract: An improved heat sensing tip for a temperature sensing device is provided. The tip comprises an elongated shell of heat conductive material. A temperature probe is positioned for movement within the shell toward and away from an opening in the shell. A cap of heat conductive material is positioned at the front of the probe. A spring urges the cap in contact with the shell for heat conductivity between the two when the device is not in operation. When the device is in operation, the spring bias is overcome thereby providing an insulating air gap between the shell and the tip.
