Abstract:
In a statistical based speech recognition system, one of the key issues is the selection of the Hidden Markov Model that best matches a given sequence of feature observations. The problem is usually addressed by the calculation of the maximum likelihood, ML, state sequence by means of a Viterbi or other decoder. Noise or inadequate training can produce an ML sequence associated with a Hidden Markov Model other than the correct model. The method of the present invention provides improved robustness by combining the standard ML state sequence score (416) with an additional path core (418) derived from the dynamics of the ML score as a function of time. These two scores, when combined, form a hybrid metric (420) that, when used with the decoder, optimizes selection of the correct Hidden Markov Model (422).
Abstract:
A radio communication system (100) has distributed operational control. Multiple autonomously operable computer workstations (120) are linked to a radio communication database (175) via a computer network (130). A local database (211), corresponding to a view of the radio communication database (175), is stored on each computer system (120). A radio system console operator interface (206) is configured according to information in the local database (211), and is operated to perform operational control of a portion of the radio communication system (100). Data consistency of the information stored in the local database (211) is automatically maintained.
Abstract:
While participating in a group call on a first wireless communication resource (114), senior members (104-107) of a communication group (108) can initiate a semi-private call. A central controller (110) allocates a second wireless communication resource (115) for the semi-private call. Furthermore, executive members (106-107) can initiate an executive call to be established on a third wireless communication resource (116). Executive members can participate in the executive call, the semi-private call, and the group call, whereas senior members can participate in the semi-private call and the group call. Junior members (101-103), normally allowed to participate only in the group call, can be selected by senior members to temporarily participate in the group call and the semi-private call.
Abstract:
A broadcast for interactive viewing by a plurality of viewers is provided by contemporaneously capturing (10) a plurality of wide-angle image sequences from a plurality of viewpoints. The viewpoints are selected from the group consisting of a space viewpoint, a terrestrial viewpoint, and an undersea viewpoint. The wide-angle image sequences are broadcasted (12) to the viewers. Each of the viewers receives at least one of the wide-angle image sequences, and selects a portion of the at least one of the wide-angle image sequences. A perspective corrected view of the portion is displayed for view by the viewer. Optionally, prestored textual data and a perspective corrected view of a prestored image may also be displayed.
Abstract:
In a quantization noise reduction circuit (200), a feedback signal (W) is added to an input signal (X) to the quantization circuit to reduce quantization noise. The feedback signal is generated as a filtered difference between a sample of an N bit signal (X') and a time coincident sample of an M bit quantized signal, where M
Abstract:
A battery pack (10) is connected to a load or charger (12) and includes battery cells (20), under-voltage switch (22), a first voltage controlled switch (24), over-voltage switch (28), and second voltage controlled switch (30). Under-voltage switch (22) can block only discharge current, any recharge current may pass through it regardless of its switch state. Over-voltage switch (28) can block only recharge current when switched off and will always allow discharge current to flow regardless of its switch state. First voltage controlled switch (24) maintains under-voltage switch (22) on while battery voltage V1 is above a predetermined under-voltage level. When V1 drops to, or below, the under-voltage level first voltage controlled switch (24) switches off under-voltage switch (22) with a switch signal on line (26). Second voltage controlled switch (30) maintains over-voltage switch (28) on while battery voltage V1 is below a predetermined over-voltage level. When V1 reaches or exceeds the over-voltage level second voltage controlled switch turns off over-voltage switch (28) via a switch signal on line (34).
Abstract:
A converter which may be used for implementing either logarithmic or inverse-logarithmic functions is disclosed. The converter includes a memory (22), two multipliers (28 and 30), and two adders (32 and 34). The memory (22) stores a plurality of coefficients which are based on a second-order Taylor polynomial used to estimate a logarithmic or inverse-logarithmic function over a domain of input values. A method of using the converter is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method of route guidance for a vehicle with off-route detection includes determining a previous maneuver location and a next maneuver location of the vehicle, then waiting until a distance traversed by the vehicle is greater than a first portion of a distance between the previous maneuver location and the next maneuver location (113). Then, providing a route guidance instruction (111) if a heading of the vehicle indicates traversal towards the next maneuver location. Also, an off-route indication can be provided (119) if a heading of the vehicle indicates traversal away from the next maneuver location.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method (200), transceiver (100), and system (900) for providing wireless communication compatible with 10BASE-T Ethernet. In the transceiver, an absence detector receives a transmitted signal, determines an absence of the transmitted signal, and passes the absence to an activity detector in order to differentiate between a reflected signal and a received signal in a half duplex system. The activity detector receives the received signal and determines an operation time signal in which the received signal is absent.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for specialized call handling transmits (224) and receives (194) a specialized call request message, determines (196) a location of a remote communication unit (100, 110, 140) sending the specialized call request message, determines (200) at least one service center telephone number which the remote communication unit (100, 110, 140) may use to establish a specialized call, transmits (202, 206) a returned message to the remote communication unit (100, 110, 140) containing a selected service center telephone number, and sets up the specialized call (204, 232) using the selected service center telephone number.
