Metal cord (100, 200, 300, 510, 520, 530) for reinforcing elastomer products comprising n metal filaments (105, 210) twisted together in a cord twisting direction, all the metal filaments (105, 210) have the same cord twisting pitch, wherein at least one metal filament (210) has a cross section which deviates from a round cross section, e.g. a flat, oval or rectangular cross-section. The metal cord (100, 200, 300, 510, 520, 530) has high rubber penetration, high strength and high fatigue resistance. Also, the use of the metal cord (100, 200, 300, 510, 520, 530) for reinforcing rubber product, e.g. a breaker layer of a tire, is disclosed.

A steel cord (20) comprises a plurality of steel filaments (22, 24) arranged in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the steel cord (20) without twisting. The steel cord (20) further comprises a wrapping filament (26) twisted around the steel cord (20). Each of said steel filaments (22, 24) is a flat wire having flat surfaces. The steel filament (24) near the center of the steel cord (20) has a bigger width than the steel filaments (22) further away from the center of the steel cord (20) such that the cross-section of said steel cord (20) approximates an oval shape with the bending stiffness around the shorter axis of the oval shape being greater than the bending stiffness around the longer axis. In a tire, the steel cord being used as a reinforcement, the longer axis being arranged perpendicular to the radial direction of the tire.

A covering device (120) having enhanced abrasion resistance properties, said covering device comprising a braided construction of at least one layer of a uniaxially oriented ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) unitary tape (125) having a continuous and coherent structure. The abrasion resistance of organic fiber based ropes, cords, or laminate structures is increased by such a covering device (120) A corresponding process for forming a cord like device is also disclosed.

An elongated steel element (12) with a martensite, tempered martensite, bainite or sorbite structure has a polymer coating (16) with a thickness lower than 20 μm immediately upon the elongated steel element (14). The friction coefficient and corrosion resistance are both improved by the polymer coating at a lower cost.

A steel cord (10) adapted for the reinforcement of rubber products, the steel cord comprises a core (12) and a layer of filaments (14) with round cross-sections twisted around the core (12). The core (12) comprises a flat wire at a waveform, which lies in the plane of the flat wire. The wire is obtainable by first crimping a round wire and thereafter flattening the crimped wire. The filaments of the layer do not substantially contact each other to make spaces between each other to insure adequate rubber penetration into the cords. The steel cord has improvements on elongation at break.

According to the invention, the elastic link for adjusting the distance between two members, at least one of which is mobile, is characterised in that it comprises at least two elastic yarns (1, 2) each attached through one of the opposite ends thereof to two points (6-7; 6-8; 6-9; 6-10) distant from each other of an intermediate portion (5a) of a strap (5) located between the extreme portions (5b, 5c) of the latter, under conditions such that when a tensile force is applied on said strap, the first elastic yarn (1) is stretched first, the second elastic yarn being then stretched based on the magnitude of the applied tensile force.

The cable (11) has a permanent elongation of less than 0.05 % at a permanent force of 50N, after being subjected to a force of 450N.
