The color of gemstones or the like is assessed by projecting light onto the stone, using an interrupting member to regularly interrupt the path of the light shortly before it reaches the stone, the member having a normally white, diffusing interrupting surface, and using a detector for detecting the color of the light coming from the gemstone and from the interrupting surface of the interrupting member. Preferably, the stone is mounted in a chamber having normally white, diffusing internal walls and the diffusing interrupting surface is within the chamber.

Apparatus for measuring and controlling the color of a moving web in which a circular variable bandpass filter having a passband varying substantially continuously with angular displacement through the optical spectrum is interposed in the optical path between the web and a detector and is rotated to produce a detector output which periodically scans the optical spectrum. In one disclosed embodiment, the detector outputs at the various wavelengths are weighted to produce X, Y and Z tristimulus values while, in another disclosed embodiment, dye flows are so controlled as to minimize the total square error between the measured reflectance spectrum and the desired reflectance spectrum.

Abstract:
The color of light emitted by an assembled light emitting diode (LED) based illumination device with at least two different wavelength converting materials is automatically tuned to within a predefined tolerance of a target color point by modifying portions of the wavelength converting materials. The color of light emitted from the assembled LED based illumination device is measured and a material modification plan is determined based at least in part on the measured color of light and a desired color of light to be emitted. The material modification plan may further include the location of the wavelength converting materials to be modified. The wavelength converting materials are selectively modified in accordance with the material modification plan so that the assembled LED based illumination device emits a second color of light that is within a predetermined tolerance of a target color point.

Provided are an integrating sphere photometer and a measuring method of the same. The integrating sphere photometer includes a plurality of photodetectors, an integrating sphere having through-holes formed to correspond to the photodetectors, baffles disposed inside the integrating sphere in front of the photodetectors to be spaced apart from the photodetectors, a photometer disposed at a through-hole, and an adjustment unit adjusting output signals of the photodetectors to have the same output signal with respect to light illuminated from a point-like standard light source disposed at a center region in the integrating sphere.

A colour optical measurement instrument in the wave lenght range of 350 to 1100 nm or further to measure and quantify the color difference in the visibel range and night vision in near infra red range equipped with an illuminition source, integrating sphere (in case of D8), detector with an opticl assembly between source and the sample and the sample and the detector for proper optical focussing using a variable sample aperture for color formulations and defining the camouflage property of the resultant.
Abstract:
A tristimulus colorimeter for measuring reflective or transmissive materials is provided. The colorimeter measures a sample under a calibrated light source, receives inputs to detectors, and determines CIE tristimulus values of the same sample as they would occur under a reference light source. The colorimeter includes a calibrated light source and a single silicon chip that includes three or more detectors. Each detector is permanently coated by a different mix of dyes or other colorants that form a wavelength-selective filter. A single silicon chip embodies all the detectors and electronics, with each detector coated over by deposited filter layers.
