PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire with a thinned belt cover layer, and improved in durability at high-speed operation without deteriorating uniformity. SOLUTION: The pneumatic radial tire provided with belt layers 6a, 6b on an outer periphery side of a carcass layer 4 in a crown portion 1, has 1×N twist structure formed twisting N pieces of (N=2 to 8) wires, and a flat cross sectional shape having a long diameter in width directions of the belt layers 6a, 6b. A steel cord C formed into a zigzag shape which is 1.5 to 3.0 in a ratio of amplitude W to the long diameter D and 20 mm to 50 mm in wave length L, is wound to a tire circumferential direction along the belt layers 6a, 6b at substantially 0° to make the product of a cord cross section area and cord driving density be 2-9 mm 2 /50 mm, thereby providing a belt cover layer 7 on an edge portion outer periphery side of the belt layers 6a, 6b. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord reducing the dimensional change by reducing a cord diameter as possible while securing adhesion of the cord to a rubber, and to provide a pneumatic radial tire. SOLUTION: The steel cord 10 for a belt layer has a flat structure obtained by twisting five side wires 12 on the outside of one core wire 11 reformed to a helical shape so that the circumcircle C11 of the core wire 11 and the circumcircle C12 of the side wires 12 may each be ellipse. The core wire 11 is thinner than the side wire 12, and the twisted direction of the core wire 11 is the same as the twisted direction of the side wires 12. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord having high elongation properties, having a suitable primary elongation part in a low load region, excellent in penetrating properties of rubber thereinto, capable of preventing productivity from deteriorating, by controlling a cost of equipment and an amount of consumption of production energy, and suitable as an embedded and reinforcing material for a rubber product, especially as a high elongation cord used by being embedded in an external layer part of a reinforcing layer of a tire for an automobile, and to provide the tire for the automobile, given by using the steel cord. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord which is a zero-degree belt cord having moderate elongation characteristics following to the expansion in the diametral direction of a tire in a vulcanizing treatment during molding of the tire, reducing the elongation after molding of the tire and suppressing the expansion of the tire in the radial direction during running. SOLUTION: The steel cord 1 has an n×m open structure without a core strand. The external tangent line shape S2 of strands 2 has a nearly elliptical shape in nearly the same direction in the longitudinal direction. The external tangent line shape S1 of the cord 1 is a nearly elliptical shape in the same direction as the elliptical direction of the strands. The steel cord is characterized as having a structure as follows. The flatness of the strands 2 and steel cord 1 is 1.15-2.70 and the adjacent mutual two wires and the mutual strands contact or approach in both terminal regions in the major axis direction of the strands 2 and steel cord 1 and separate in other regions. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously provide rust resistance and edge-separation resistance of a belt layer serving as a tension-resistant layer, by providing two steel element lines of a core with two-dimensional waving structure represented by a specific equation and specifying an oblate ratio of a steel cord. SOLUTION: Two steel element lines f1 of a core fA are arranged right and left in parallel, and respectively have waving structures formed in two-dimensional wave shapes upwards and downward. The waving height H, the waving pitch L, and the diameter (d) of the steel element lines f1 satisfy the relation ship represented by the equations: 1.2≤H/d≤1.9, 8≤L/d, H/d≥0.048 L/d+0.536.
