Abstract:
The invention includes a mechanical scanning feed and a spherical lens antenna system. The mechanical feed includes a waveguide, which has a movable wall assembly that contains a guide slot. The moveable wall portion also includes an end wall that is located proximate to the guide slot to prevent leakage of the propagating energy out of the waveguide. The mechanical feed also includes a drive mechanism, which moves the moveable wall assembly along the waveguide in a direction that is parallel to the direction of propagation of the energy. This allows the guide slot to be positioned at any elevation angle to allow a portion of the propagating energy to exit through the guide slot. This in combination with the waveguide being able to be rotated 360 degrees about the spherical lens provides the antenna system with nearly spherical coverage.

Present herein is a technique for providing computer and internet access for a group of participants, which can include economically disadvantaged persons. An orientation is first conducted wherein computer technical skills are taught. After the orientation, a computer is provided and installed in the homes of each participant. During installation, the participant is provided with additional training. Internet access is also provided for the participant through a partnership with the local telecommunications provider.
Abstract:
A customizable call center dialing system, method and computer program product for providing computer based training module that permits an administrator to selectively adjust campaign variables associated with a calling campaign. The system preferably includes a server, a dialing algorithm having a plurality of variables associated with a dialing campaign wherein the dialing algorithm is executed by the server. An administrator interface is in communication with the server, and at least one agent interface in communication with the server. A dialing engine is controlled by an output from the dialing algorithm wherein the administrator interface permits an authorized user to selectively modify the output of the dialing algorithm. Advantageously, at least one dialing parameter can be modified, in real-time, such that a new call is predictively initiated close to a time when the call agent finishes a previous call.
Abstract:
An apparatus and methods for measuring combustion parameters in the measurement zone of a gas turbine engine. The measurement zone is defined as being between an outer casing and an engine component having a reflecting surface inside the outer casing. The apparatus comprises a laser generating a transmitting beam of light of a select wavelength and a multimode transmitting fiber optically coupled to the laser. A transmitting optic is optically coupled to the multimode optical fiber for transmitting the beam into the measurement zone. The reflecting surface is configured to provide a Lambertian reflection. A receiving optic is positioned to receive the Lambertian reflection. Means are provided in operative association with the multimode transmitting fiber for averaging modal noise induced signal level variation of light propagating within the multimode transmitting fiber.
Abstract:
A method of absorption spectroscopy to determine a rapidly variable gas parameter. The method includes transmitting light from a synchronization light source to a synchronization detector. The transmitted light is periodically interrupted by a moving mechanical part between the synchronization light source and synchronization detector. The output from the synchronization detector is used to generate a repeating time signal having variable phase delay. This signal is used to control the timing of laser spectroscopy wavelength scans. Multiple spectroscopic scans may be repeated at multiple selected time signal phase delay and the results averaged for each phase. Apparatus for implementing the above methods are also disclosed.

A refrigeration controller within a retail refrigeration cabinet controls the temperature (502) so that it approaches the maximum allowable temperature by using the most efficient fan speed for loading and time of day (507) but is varied by customer presence (505) to adhere to an algorithm reducing the noise (506) created by such machines while still creating sufficient cooling to remain within the maximum temperature while providing acceptable power economy.
Abstract:
A beverage cooler has a low voltage DC supply (311) usable by the controller ancillaries, such as lighting (318), the DC supply also providing the supply voltage to a microprocessor (313) which electronically commutates at least one of the motors (305, 306, 307) associated with beverage cooling to provide a required speed or loading. The microprocessor also responds to and controls the cooler ancillaries, such as lighting, temperature and status reporting thereby allowing a reduced component count.
Abstract:
A method of absorption spectroscopy including obtaining absorption data at multiple wavelengths along more than one line-of-sight path through a quantity of gas of interest. The method further includes identifying more than one temperature and gas species concentration bin along the multiple line-of-sight paths and creating a map of temperature and gas species concentration. The map thus created will have at least two-dimensional information derived from select temperature and gas species concentration bins identified along more than one line-of-sight path. Apparatus for implementing the above method is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A diode laser spectroscopy gas sensing apparatus having a diode laser with a select lasing frequency, a pitch optic coupled to the diode laser with the pitch optic being operatively associated with a process chamber and oriented to project laser light along a projection beam through the process chamber. This embodiment additionally includes a catch optic in optical communication with the pitch optic to receive the laser light projected through the process chamber and an optical fiber optically coupled to the catch optic. In addition, the catch optic is operatively associated with a catch side alignment mechanism which provides for the alignment of the catch optic with respect to the projection beam to increase a quantity of laser light received by the catch optic from the pitch optic and coupled to the optical fiber and a detector sensitive to the select lasing frequency optically coupled to the optical fiber. The catch side alignment mechanism may consist of means to tilt the catch optic along a first axis and a second axis orthogonal to the first axis with both the first and second axes being approximately orthogonal to the projection beam.
Abstract:
A winding for a toroidal electrodynamic machine is formed by providing a set of bobbins in a rectilinear array, winding the bobbins so that each phase is of one continuous wire, with each set of phases wound one bobbin at a time, the completed rectilinear array then being formed into a circular array for the machine. The rectilinear array has bobbins formed and is wired in such a way that bending into a torus is possible.
