Abstract: In a paper machine having a roll (12) rotating about an axis (A1) extending in a cross machine direction, and having a doctor blade (14) applied to the rol l surface by a blade holder (16) parallel to the axis and carried on a doctor back (18), an apparatus is provided for accommodating relative movement between the blade holder (16) and the doctor back (18) in the cross machine direction during mounting and removal of the blade holder (16). The apparatu s comprises a rail (42) fixed to the doctor back (18) and extending longitudinally in the cross machine direction. A groove (46) extends along t he length of the guide rail. The groove (46) has a bottom (48), a width measure d between confronting sides (50), and a top defined by ledges (52) projecting inwardly from the sides (50), with inner edges spaced one from the other to define a slot (54) that underlies the blade holder and has a width narrower than the width of the groove (46). A plurality of shafts (56) are spaced alo ng the length of the blade holder and project downwardly through the slot (54) and into the groove (46). First (62) and second (64) independently rotatable elements are carried by each of the shafts. The first rotatable elements (62 ) are located in the slot (54) and are dimensioned to contact the inner edges of the ledges(52), and the second rotatable elements (64) are located in the groove (46) and are dimensioned to contact the undersides of the ledges (52) .

Abstract: An apparatus for doctoring a roll surface including a pivot bar adapted to be mounted on a doctor back and which the pivot bar defines an upwardly projecting fulcrum. Abstract: A doctor blade holder has a top plate having a rear portion overlying a base structure and a front portion projecting forward from the base structure. Blade support members are carried by and cooperate with the front portion of the top plate to define forwardly open slots for receiving the doctor blade. A hinge is interposed between the rear portion of the doctor blade and the base structure. The hinge has a body portion defining a fulcrum about which the top plate pivots relative to the base structure, and has forwardly and rearwardly projecting integral flanges arranged respectively to underlie the top plate and overlie the base structure. The doctor blade holder has means for securing the forwardly projecting flanges to the top plate and for securing the rearwardly projecting flanges to the base structure.
