Abstract: An apparatus for doctoring a roll surface (5) including a pivot bar (12) adapted to be mounted on a doctor back (20) and which the pivot bar defines an upwardly projecting fulcrum (14). Blade support membe rs (36) are carried by and cooperate with the top plate (28) to define forwardl y open slots (40), which slots (40) are configured and dimensioned to receive a rear edge of a forwardly projecting doctor blade (42). The blade support members (36) have rearwardly projecting second shelves (44) underlying the first shelf (26) and a loading mechanism (50) is interposed between the firs t and second shelves (26, 44) for pivoting the top plate (28) on the fulcrum (14) in a direction urging the doctor blade (42) against the roll surface (5 ).

A plurality of shafts are spaced along the length of the blade holder and project downwardly through the slot and into the groove. First and second independently rotatable elements are carried by eac h of the shafts. The first rotatable elements are located in the slot and are dimensioned to contact the inner edges of the ledges, and the second rotatable elements are located in the groove and are dimensioned to contact the undersides of theledges.
