PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide MEMS gyros with quadrature reducing springs maintaining desired resonant modes and consistently low quadrature errors.SOLUTION: Spring elements having curved and straight sections, orientation of spring element anchor points with respect to a common radius, orientation of spring element segments with respect to a specific axis, balance of the length of spring elements about the common radius, and mass balance about the common radius can be used to mitigate unwanted out of plane motion. The spring set provides planar motion while reducing undesired out of plane motion, which makes MEMS devices substantially insensitive to the process-induced etch angle variations of the spring elements.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for detecting a target using a high-speed sampling device. SOLUTION: The device and method for detecting the target improves precision and speed of target detection in applications of security and supervision, using a logic circuit. As a logic element, a commercial field programmable gate array can be used. In one embodiment, a multi gigabit transfer (MGT) port of a field programmable gate array is locked on an external clock. When a MGT port is coupled to an external clock, a rate at which receiving signals are sampled can be increased without use of the device in an over sampling mode. Accordingly, the field programmable gate array can be sampled at a speed at least 8 times as large as an actual transfer rate, thus improving the speed and precision of target detection. A fuel injector for a gas turbine combustor is disclosed which includes a feed arm having a flange for mounting the injector within the combustor and a fuel nozzle (26) depending from the feed arm for injecting fuel into the combustor for combustion. An optical sensor array is operatively associated with the fuel nozzle for observing combustor flame characteristics. The optical sensor array includes a plurality of sapphire rods (194) positioned to be close enough to the combustor flame to oxidize soot deposits thereon.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which the sideslip of an aircraft is measured by using an air data probe and an inertia reference unit. SOLUTION: The method allows the measurement of the sideslip of an aircraft by using an air data probe and an inertia reference unit. A lateral sideslip component βL of the aircraft is calculated as a function of inertial flight information. Also, the angular sideslip component βA of the aircraft is calculated as a function of inertial flight information. When the lateral sideslip component βL and the angular sideslip component βA are combined, a total sideslip angle βTOTAL of the aircraft is obtained.
