Said apparatus includes a roller (8) engaging the surface (10) of the product (11) to be inspected, and located upstream from the recording wheel (1) relative to the moving direction of said product, as well as an inlet (15) for controllably delivering an expendable coupling fluid with good surface wetting properties onto the surface (10) of the moving product. The apparatus is mounted on a movable carriage (5) that rolls along said surface (10) and is combined with supporting and guiding means (17-24) for controlling its position on the surface (10). The apparatus enables cross scanning for the ultrasonic inspection of a product (11) moving at high speed, e.g. a steel strip, during the production thereof.
Abstract:
A method wherein a steel sheet is annealed in a non-oxidising annealing atmosphere containing 0.005-1 % of ammonia, and the sheet is immersed in a galvanising bath. The method is particularly suitable for steels containing more than 0.2 % of silicon as the oxidisable alloying element. The wettability of the steel in the galvanising bath is increased while maintaining the original mechanical and/or electrical properties of the steel.
Abstract:
A method for producing a sheet or strip suitable for making a can by swaging and stretching, using a steel comprising less than 0.008 wt.% of carbon, 0.10-0.30 wt.% of manganese, less than 0.006 wt.% of nitrogen, 0.01-0.06 wt.% of aluminium, less than 0.015 wt.% of phosphorus, less than 0.020 wt.% of sulphur, less than 0.020.wt % of silicon, and no more than 0.08 wt.% of one or more elements selected from copper, nickel and chromium, the balance being iron and residual impurities. According to the method, a slab is hot-rolled into a hot-rolled sheet or strip less than 3 mm thick, then the hot-rolled sheet or strip is cold-rolled with a draught of 83-92 %, subjected to recrystallisation annealing and finally cold-rolled again with a draught of 10-40 %.

Each suspension arm consists of at least one metal plate (1) and a lateral shield (8), welded to one another and the beam (7), the plate (1) having, over at least one part of its length, a varying width, increasing from the rear towards the front, according to a substantially parabolic function.
Abstract:
A refractory shaped brick is disclosed for coke ovens having two vertical partitions held together in a traction resistant manner by transverse binders, forming an acute angle to each other, so that their mutual spacing varies over the whole partition length by the dimension v. The shaped brick is delimited by a lower surface (22) and by an upper surface (24) parallel thereto. Both surfaces (22, 24) are plane except for form-fitting grooves and projections. The shaped bricks are as thick as a partition and have both a plane lateral surface (18) on the coke side and a plane lateral surface (20) on the flue side. A binder area (14, 16) projects from the lateral surface (20) on the flue side. The binder area (16) has at least one projection (26) or one groove (32) on the upper surface (24) and on the lower surface (22). The projection (26) or groove (32) extends transversely to the longitudinal direction of the binder area (16), effects a form-fitting bond between stacked shaped bricks and is spaced apart from the free end of the binder area (16) by a distance which is clearly larger than the dimension v. The groove (32) or projection (26) extends in the direction of the binder over a width which is larger than v.
Abstract:
An ingot mould has energetically cooled metal walls (1, 3) having means in their upper portion for decreasing the intensity of the heat flow extracted from the cast metal (2), such as a coating (6, 15) of a less conductive metal than that of the walls, or grooves (31) provided in said walls. On top of the walls is provided a heat insulating feeder bush (7) associated with gas injection means terminating in nozzles distributed on the inner periphery of said ingot mould. During the casting, the free surface of the liquid metal is maintained at the same level as the feeder bush, wherein the solid skin (21) only starts to solidify at the upper edge of the metal walls (3). The invention is particularly useful for the continuous casting of steel.
Abstract:
A probe for determining the content of a dissolved metal in a plating bath, comprising a tube (1) containing an electrolyte (3) in which the end of a wire made of said metal is immersed to form a reference electrode (4), and a tubular protective casing (11) around said tube. The lower end of the tube (1) is intended to be immersed in the plating bath and sealed by a sealing cap (2) made of a material with a melting point is lower than the bath temperature. The probe is particularly useful for measuring the dissolved aluminium content in a plating bath.
Abstract:
A plasma torch holder for a sheet metal cutting machine, consisting of a body (1) with a mounting flange (4) for the head (5) of the plasma torch (2), at least one engagement member (10) provided on the body (3) for engaging the metal sheet surface and spacing the tip of the torch head (5) from the sheet, and a flange (6) for supporting said body (3) and the head (5) of the torch (2) on a tool holder column (7) of the machine, the head (5) of the plasma torch (2) being guided by a machine controller. Said holder is characterised in that the body (3) consists of two portions, i.e. an upper portion (8) supporting the mounting flange (4) for the head (5) of the plasma torch (2), as well as the supporting flange (6) for supporting said body (3) on the column (7), and a releasable lower portion (9) supporting the metal sheet-engaging member (10) of the holder (1), said releasable portion (9) being attached to the upper portion (8) via a device (11) for moving the lower portion (9) relative to the upper portion (8) in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the head (5) of the plasma torch (2).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for regulating the level of the meniscus (13) of molten metal in a mould (5) of a continuous casting machine, wherein the electric signals provided by at least one pair of sensors (17, 18) placed above said meniscus are collected, said signals being a function of the respective distances (h1, h2) between said sensors and said meniscus, said two signals being then combined so as to obtain a unique signal representative of a ficticious level of said meniscus, said signal being then sent to control means (15, 24) of a regulation device (14) which regulates the flow rate of metal entering the mould, so that said control means actuate said device in order to bring said ficticious level of the meniscus to a predetermined set value (h), caracterised in that each signal from the sensors is conditioned by eliminating the oscillations having both a frequency higher than a threshold value (F) and an amplitude smaller than a threshold value (D). The invention relates also to a combination mode of said signals, and to a device for implementing such method.
