    Abstract: 126,523. Stewart & Co., D., and Holmes, T. E. June 27, 1918. Hunting-gear. - The steam inlet and exhaust valves of an intensifier are controlled by usual bunting-gear, the connexion between the gear and the inlet valve being automatically broken when the hunting-gear over-runs the valve and automatically re-established when the steam piston returns to the commencement of its stroke. In the example shown, a lever K pivoted on the spindle of the steam inlet valve A, has a portion K so shaped that it remains in engagement with a pin C on a lever C against the action of a weight K , so long as the pin C exerts an upward pressure. When the hunting-gear over-runs the valve, the portion K moves out of engagement and the valve A closes. When the steam piston is returned to the commencement of its stroke, a weight E forcing a roller into contact with a cam-bar E acts through connexions E , N, M', M, L , L, L to force the portion K back into engagement with the pin C .

    Abstract: 17,012. Davy Bros., and Holmes, T. E. July 17. Bolts; bolting. - Relates to the formation of the screwed ends of the framework columns of hydraulic forging and like presses, the object being to hold the nuts firmly. The column c is provided with a collar e, the bearing part m being flat or conical. A cavity k extends from the end of the column as far as the collar. Any heating agent or medium is introduced into the cavity, so that the end of the column is lengthened. The nut f is screwed on and the column allowed to cool, thus tightening the nut on the entablature b.

Rope and chain stresslimiting devices. - Overload relief apparatus for cranes is so arranged that the incidence of an overload releases the selfsustaining brake until normal conditions are restored. Means may also be provided for simultaneously declutching the power supply. In the arrangement shown, the drum E is driven by gearing from a motor A through a clutch B. The tailing end of the hoisting-rope G is passed round a pulley K pivoted to a lever L. The self-sustaining brake comprises shoes Q , Q normally applied to a drum Q by a bent lever P . The drum Q is geared by a pawl s to the drum E when lowering. The lever P forms an abutment for a spring N from which the lever L is suspended by a rod M, so that the braking action is proportional to the load . Should an overload occur, the washer n engages a three armed lever P , which is connected to the shoe Q by a link p and to the clutch-operating lever T' by a link T.
