Abstract: A low viscosity polyalphaolefin is produced by dissolving a catalyst of AlCl3- ethylene glycol diacetate- nickel chloride [mole ratio = 1:0.5:0.225 in a polyalphaolefin solvent to obtain a polyalphaolefin solvent to obtain a catalyst sludge, and reacting the sludge with an alphaolefin at 100-150 deg.C for 1- 22hr. The polyalphaolefin is used as a basic oil of engine oil for Automobiles.

Abstract: A neutral and superbasic alkylphenate is prepd. by adding sulphur powder, alkaline earth metal and C2-4 diol to C8-20 alkylphenol to prepare alkylphenol sulphide of formula (I) [R= C8-20 hydrocarbon; x= 1-3; M= oxide or hydroxide of alkaline earth metal, e.g. Ca, Mg, Ba!, reacting (I) with excessive amt. of alkaline earth metal, high b.p. of alcohol, C2-4 diol and CO2 gas, filtering and removing unreacted soild, and distillating and removing water produced in the reaction.
