Abstract: An engine brake device of a vehicle and a control method thereof in an emergency are provided to block lubricant and coolant supplied to the engine in an emergency so that the friction portion of the engine is quickly overheated and seized. An engine brake device of a vehicle comprises an emergency switch(30) which is operated by the driver in an emergency, a first solenoid valve(21) prepared in a hydraulic line(35) between an oil screen(1) and an oil pump(2), a second solenoid valve(22) which is provided in the coolant flow path of a cylinder block(20) to open and close the coolant flow path, and a controller(50) opening the first and the second solenoid valve when the emergency switch is on. As the first and the second solenoid valve are opened, the lubricant and coolant supplied to the engine are blocked.

Abstract: An apparatus for improving performance of an engine brake by changing an opening and shutting period of an exhaust valve is provided to discharge kinetic energy of a cylinder in an engine to the air by converting the kinetic energy into thermal energy through varying a phase of a cam shaft with respect to an exhaust valve timing belt gear. An apparatus for improving performance of an engine brake by changing an opening and shutting period of an exhaust valve comprises an exhaust valve timing belt gear(10), a cam shaft(20) and a phase changing member(30). The cam shaft is connected with a cam to operate the cam. The phase changing member is provided between the exhaust valve timing belt gear and the cam shaft to change the phase of the cam shaft with respect to the exhaust valve timing belt gear. A helical gear(12) is formed in an inner side of the exhaust valve timing belt gear. A spur gear(22) is formed in an outer side of the cam shaft. The helical is formed in an inner side of the phase changing member and the spur gear is formed in an outer side of the phase changing member.
