    Abstract: A fuse has a fuse element (6) with a fusible conductor (7) of a conductor material (8) such as Ag, Cu or Al and is provided with doping points (9) following one another at regular intervals. There, the conductor material (8) has a directly adjoining layer of a first compound (10) of the same with a doping material such as In or Ge. It forms mixed crystals which contain the conductor material (8) and the doping material in a fixed stoichiometric ratio, such as for example Ag2In, and is separated from said conductor material by a stable phase boundary. The doping points (9) weaken the fusible conductor by lowering the melting point to below 250° C., so that arc formation rapidly occurs there when there are short-circuit currents, although its electrical resistance per unit of length is under some circumstances only a few percent greater than in the remaining region. The fusible conductor (7) bears a continuous layer of a burn-up material (12). It has an ignition temperature which is preferably lower than the melting point of the first compound (10).

    Abstract: A volume modified epoxy resin casting composition comprises a three-dimensional cross-linked polysiloxane in dispersed form having a particle size of 0.02-50 mu m that may react with the epoxy resin and/or the curing agent and a linear or branched siloxane compound having reactive groups that may react with the epoxy resin and/or hardener. A volume modified casting composition (I) based on a curable epoxy resin comprising an epoxy resin, curing agent, optionally an accelerator and other additives such as filler, flexibilizing agents and coloring agents is characterized in that the composition (I) comprises (A) a three-dimensional cross-linked polysiloxane in dispersed form having a particle size of 0.02-50 mu m that may react with the epoxy resin and/or the curing agent, (B) a linear or branched siloxane compound having reactive groups that may react with the epoxy resin and/or hardener and optionally (C) a low mol. wt. oligomeric siloxane compound. An Independent claim is included for a process for the production of the composition (I) such that at least a portion of the epoxy group containing components (A) and (B) are pre-mixed and pre-hardened or at least a portion of the hydroxyl, amine or carboxyl containing components (A) and (B) are pre-mixed with the epoxy resin and pre-hardened.

    Abstract: A fuse with two spaced apart power supply connections, consists of identical arrays of active portions comprising moldings and planar intermediate layer between moldings. A fuse has two spaced-apart power supply connections and an active part which comprises a fusible current-carrying fuse element and an arc-extinguishing medium. The fuse element is of modular construction and has at least two first modules connected in series and is connected to the two power supply connection. The fuse element is arranged on an electrically insulating substrate in which the arc-extinguishing medium covers the exposed surfaces of the fuse element. The active part is formed as a sandwich and has two stable moldings, and has a predominantly planar intermediate layer arranged between the two moldings. The intermediate layer contains at least the two series-connected first modules. A first molding of the two moldings is formed at least by part of the electrically insulating substrate, and a second molding is formed at least in part by the arc-extinguishing medium.

    Abstract: Mold-free resin-insulated coil windings are obtained by applying continuous fibers embedded in a quasi-solid-state epoxy-resin matrix, e.g. in the form of a tape, to the coil windings. The tape is locally heated up to the melting point of its polymer matrix, and is subsequently pressed against the winding body. The heated and fused resin of the tape, which is pressed onto the coil, flows under pressure into the voids and gaps between the coil windings and fills them up, thereby hermetically insulating the coil windings. After leaving the heating and pressing apparatus the fused epoxy resin becomes solid again. The resulting curing process is thus considerably simplified and shortened, compared to the state of the art.
