PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optically active compound having high helically inducing power and attaining necessary helical pitch length of a liquid crystal composition, without significantly impairing both the physical properties and optical properties of a liquid crystal composition, by adding it to the composition. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable composition exhibiting a liquid crystal phase at temperatures near room temperature, excellent in solvent-solubility, giving thin polymer films obtained by curing the polymerizable composition which film keeps a uniform film state and is excellent in heat-resistance, orientation control and optical properties even when the polymer film is formed to be a thin film.
