Abstract: PURPOSE:To safely dissolve and recover a metal with simple operation by using a cationic surfactant and halogentated hydrocarbons. CONSTITUTION:A cationic surfactant such as cetylpyridinium chloride is added to halogenated hydrocarbons (chlorine, bromine, and iodine are used as the halogen) such as benzyl chloride, the powders of a typical metal and a transition metal are further added and mixed, and the mixture is heated, if necessary. A halogen atom is given to the object metal from the halogenated hydrocarbons, and the metal halide is formed. The metal halide is converted to an ion pair of a metal polyhalide anion complex and an alkylammonium cation by the action of the cationic surfactant, and the metal is dissolved in the halogenated hydrocarbons. Accordingly, the operation is simplified, the metal is safely dissolved, and the metal can be recovered by such a process.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the title polymer which has a small content of by-products and can be easily washed, by performing the polymerization of a 2,6- disubstituted phenol in the presence of a specified catalyst and oxygen or an oxygen-liberating substance in two stages in a specified solvent. CONSTITUTION:The polymerization of a 2,6-disubstituted phenol (e.g., 2,6- dimethylphenol) in the presence of oxygen or an oxygen-liberating substrate (e.g., air) by using an oxidative coupling reaction catalyst (e.g., cupurous chloride) is performed in a pyridine/aromatic compound (e.g., pyridine/benzene) mixed solvent by a two-stage reaction comprising a reaction at low temperature (desirably, a reaction performed for 30-60min under cooling with an ice bath) and a subsequent reaction at high temperature (desirably, a reaction at 40-60 deg.C). The use of said solvent makes it possible to synthesize a polyphenylene ether of a high degree of polymerization, and the two-stage reaction makes it possible to perform a washing operation easily because of a decreased content of by- products and to obtain a polyphenylene ether of a high degree of polymerization suitable as, especially, a material for an engineering plastic.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of a metal deposited on a film by plating by etching the film by a prescribed method, treating it with an aqueous soln. of a cationic surfactant, sticking palladium colloid to the surface of the film and carrying out plating. CONSTITUTION:A polyethylene terephthalate film is etched with an aqueous soln. of an alkali metallic hydroxide and treated with an aqueous soln. of a cationic surfactant or hydrosol of a metallic hydroxide. The treated film is immersed in palladium hydrosol contg. one or more among an anionic surfactant, a nonionic surfactant, and a water soluble polymer to stick palladium colloid to the surface of the film. A ferromagnetic metallic film is then formed on the surface of the film by chemical plating in a magnetic field.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a zeolite having reaction selectivity by carrying a precious metal fine particle on a zeolite, treating the product with a precious metal dissolving agent composed of a quaternary ammonium halide capable of producing cation having a particle diameter equal to or above the pore diameter of the zeolite, a halogen single element and an organic solvent to selectively dissolving and removing the precious metal fine particle. SOLUTION: The noble metal dissolving agent is formed by dissolving 0.05-0.2 mol/l quaternary ammonium halide such as tetraethyl ammonium bromide, 0.025-0.1 mol/l halogen single element such as bromine per the total quantity of the precious metal dissolving agent in the organic solvent. The zeolite, on which the precious metal is carried by ion exchanging, is heated up to 400-500 deg.C at the rate of 0.1-1 deg.C/min, dried at the elevated temp. for 1-5 hr, fired and reduced by hydrogen. The zeolite is next treated with the precious metal dissolving agent to selectively dissolve and remove the precious metal fine particles carried on the surface of the zeolite to obtain the precious metal-encapsulating zeolite.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a specific metal complex useful as a raw material for a catalyst and an organometallic compound, etc., by a one-stage reaction simply in high yield by bringing a halogen simple substance into contact with a tetraalkylammonium halide and a metal in an organic solvent. SOLUTION: Stoichiometric amounts of a halogen simple substance (B) and a tetraalkylammonium halide (C) are dissolved in an organic solvent (A) such as acetonitrile or benzene, further mixed with an excessive amount of a metal (D) such as gold, silver, palladium or zinc and reacted, for example, at the reflux temperature of the component A. The unreacted component D is removed from the prepared reaction mixture and then a metal complex consisting of a halogenated metal anion and a tetraalkylammonium cation [e.g. a complex of formula I (R to R are each an alkyl; MI is a metal having 2 coordination number and 1 valence; X is a halogen), formula II (MIII is a metal having 4 coordination number and 3 valence), formula III (MII is a metal having 4 coordination number and 2 valence) or formula IV] is separated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simply obtain a polymer, having high electric conductivity, capable of carrying out oxidation and reduction and useful as an electrically conductive material, etc., for electronic parts by bringing a dialkoxy-bis (thienyl)silane into contact with iron chloride. CONSTITUTION:A dialkoxy-bis(2-thienyl)silane of formula I (R'' and R'' are alkyl) [e.g. diethoxybis(2-thienyl)silanel is brought into contact with iron(III) chloride to afford the objective polymer having a recurring unit of formula II. The reaction is preferably carried out at ambient temperature or a slightly heated temperature by dissolving the compound of formula I in an inert solvent and then adding iron(111) chloride powder to the resultant solution. This compound of formula I is preferably obtained by reacting a thiophene having the 2-position substituted with an alkali metal such as 2-lithiothiophene with a dihalodialkoxysilane used at 2:1 molar ratio in an inert solvent at -10 to $40 deg.C in an inert atmosphere.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce efficiently colored pearls each of which is covered with a coloring layer containing fine grains of gold by treating natural pearls in alkaline gold hydrosol containing cation surface active agent. CONSTITUTION:Gold hydrosol containing 0.001-0.1wt.% of gold is made by treating aqueous solution of chloroauric acid and the like with water soluble reducing agent such as sodium borohydride, sodium citrate and the like. Cation surface active agent is added to the gold hydrosol to change the charge of gold colloid grains to plus, whereby increasing attracting force with respect to the surface of pearls. Natural pearls are treated in the thus made gold hydrosol for a prescribed time, and then drawn up, washed by water and dried, by which colored pearls covered with coloring layer containing fine grains of gold are finally obtained. In this instance, it is preferable to treat pearls in the gold hydrosol of a temperature lower than about 40 deg.C for about 30 days.
