    Abstract: The invention comprises the reaction product of an anhydride of a dibasic carboxylic acid with a triazine of the general formula in which R1 denotes -Cl, -OCH3 or -SCH3, R2 denotes hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyalkenyl or hydroxyalkynyl having 2-4 carbon atoms, R3 denotes hydrogen, alkyl, allyl or alkynyl having 1-4 carbon atoms, R4 denotes alkyl or alkynyl having 1-4 carbon atoms, chloroalkyl having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, ethyl bearing -OCH3, -OC2H5, -SCH3 or -SC2H5 as substituent, -SCH3, or alkyl having 2 or 3 carbon atoms and bearing -SH as substituent, and R5 denotes hydrogen, allyl or alkyl having 1-3 carbon atoms, or a salt thereof. The compounds are half-esters of the triazine and the dicarboxylic acid and result from the esterification of the hydroxyl group of the triazine. Many suitable starting materials and products are specified.ALSO:Agents for controlling undesired plant growth comprise a solid or liquid carrier and the reaction product of an anhydride of a dibacic carboxylic acid with a triazine of the general formula: wherein R1 is -Cl, -OCH3 or -SCH3, R2 is hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyalkenyl or hydroxyalkynyl having 2-4 carbon atoms, R3 is H, alkyl, alklyl or alkynyl having 1-4 carbon atoms, R4 is alkyl or alkynyl having 1-4 carbon p atoms, chloroalkyl having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, ethyl bearing -OCH3, -OC2H5, -SCH3 or -SC2H5 as substituent, -SCH3, or alkyl having 2 or 3 carbon atoms and bearing -SH as substituent, and R5 is -H, allyl or alkyl having 1-3 carbon atoms, or a salt thereof. The compounds are half-esters of the triazine and the dicarboxylic acid and result from esterification of the hydroxyl group of the triazine. Specified solid and liquid carriers are fertilisers, inert solid carriers, talc, diatomaceous earth, water, organic liquids, xylene, petroleum distillates and synthetic organic liquids. Other herbicides may also be present, for example, unspecified inorganic salts (borates), urea derivatives, carbomates, uracils and anilides. Examples are given.

    Abstract: The invention comprises a compound of formula PhNHCON(Me)OCHMeC­CH in which the phenyl group may be substituted by up to 2 Cl or alkyl radicals. Standard etherification and urea-formation reactions are used. Specified substituents are 3- or 4-Cl; 2-, 3- or 4-Me or Et; 3,4-Cl2; 3-Cl-4-Me, and 3-Me-4-Cl.ALSO:Herbicides contain compounds of formula PhNHCON(Me)OCHMeC­CH in which the phenyl group may be substituted by up to 2 Cl or alkyl radicals. These compounds are stated to be oil-soluble and readily emulsifiable, and may be used together with other herbicides such as ureas, s-triazines, pyridazones, carbamates, thiocarbamates, uracils and borates.

    Abstract: The invention comprises compounds of formula in which R1 represents an alkyl radical with 1 to 2 carbon atoms, R2 a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical with 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a hydroxy-substituted alkyl radical, R3 a cyclohexyl or cyclooctyl group or a group where X represents a hydrogen or chlorine atom, a hydroxyl group, or an alkyl, alkylene or an alkoxy radical containing 1 to 2 carbon atoms, and n represents 1, 2, or 3, specifically, N-p-chlorophenyl-, N-3,4-dichlorophenyl-, N-phenyl-, N-m-toyl-, N-m-(vinylphenyl)-, N-p-toyl-N1-methyl - N1-isobutinylureas. They may be prepared by the reaction of aromatic isocyanates with butinylamines or of aromatic amines with N-alkyl-N-butinylcarbamic acid derivatives such as the chlorides, in the presence of sodium or potassium alcoholates and tertiary amines. The compounds are effective as selective herbicides and may be used for post-emergence treatment.ALSO:Herbicidal compositions comprise compounds of formula in which R1 represents an alkyl radical containing 1 to 2 carbon atoms, R2 a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a hydroxy-substituted alkyl radical, and R3 a cyclo-hexyl or cyclo-octyl group or the group where X represents a hydrogen or chlorine atom, a hydroxyl group, or an alkyl, alkylene or alkoxy radical containing 1 to 2 carbon atoms and n represents one of the integers 1, 2 or 3, specifically N - p - chlorophenyl - N - 3,4 - di - chlorophenyl-, N-phenyl-, N-m-tolyl-, N-m-(vinylphenyl) - N - p - tolyl - N1 - methyl - N1 - isobutinyl urea, which may be used with other weed-killers such as chloro-(methyl)-phenoxyalkyl carboxylic acid derivatives, higher chlorinated carboxylic acids, e.g. a ,a -dichloro butyric acid inorganic salts such as chlorates or borax, or phenylcarbamic acid esters. The treatment of weeds and soil infested with weeds, with aqueous dispersions using sodium lignin sulphonate as dispersing agent shows selective herbicidal results.
