    Abstract: Finely-divided ethene homopolymers or ethene copolymers with subordinated amts. of 3-8C alpha-monoalkene are prepd. by polymerising the monomer(s) at 30-150 deg.C and 1-200 bar, using a Ziegler catalyst system contg. (1) A Ti-contg. catalyst component, obtd. as ppte. on pptn. in an organic liq. by introducing and contacting, with strong agitation: (1.1) a 0.1-10 molar soln. of TiCl4 in a liq. 5-10C hydrocarbon of satd. aliphatic and/or aromatic nature, (1.2) a 0.1-10 molar soln. of an organic Al cpd. having formula RnAlCl3-n, n=1.5-3; R=1-12C alkyl in a liq. 5-10C hydrocarbon of satd. aliphatic and/or aromatic nature as well as (1.3) a 2-8C alpha-mono alkene, and (2) a tri- 1-12C alkyl Al catalyst component, provided that the atomic ratio Ti from component (1) to the Al from component (2) is 1:1 to 1:200. The novelty consists in using a Ti contg. catalyst component (1) which is pptd. at -30 to +30 deg.C, in an organic liq. having viscosity 1.5-30 sq.m/sec. at the pptn. temp. The liq. consists of (a) a liq. 5-10C hydrocarbon of satd. aliphatic and/or aromatic nature as well as (b) small amts. of a polymer of a 2-6C alpha-mono-alkene dissolved in (a). (i) 2-20 l organic liq., 0.5-5 g.mol. organic Al cpd. and 5-500 g mol alpha-mono-alkene are charged per g.mol TiCl4. (ii) 0.002-0.15 mol. units /min. per mol. unit of the total TiCl4 charged are pptd. and 0.002-1 mol. units/min. alpha-mono-alkene are introduced into the pptn. system.

    Abstract: Catalyst systems of the Ziegler-Natta catalyst type, containing, as active constituents, a) a titanium-containing solid component which contains titanium, magnesium, halogen and a carboxylic acid ester, and, as cocatalyst, b) an aluminium compound and c) optionally further electron-donor compounds, characterised in that they contain, as the carboxylic acid ester in the solid component a), an ester of a benzophenone-2-carboxylic acid of the formula I in which R is a hydrogen atom, a C1-C15-alkyl group or a halogen atom. These catalyst systems are particularly suitable for the preparation of polypropylene and copolymers of propylene with minor amounts of other alpha , beta -unsaturated olefinic compounds having 2 to 12 carbon atoms.

    Abstract: Catalyst systems of the Ziegler-Natta catalyst type, containing, as active constituents, a) a titanium-containing solid component which contains titanium, magnesium, halogen and a carboxylic acid ester, and, as cocatalyst, b) an aluminium compound and c) optionally further electron-donor compounds, characterised in that they contain in the solid component, as the carboxylic acid ester, a diester of a carboxylic acid of the formula Ia or Ib in which R , R , R and R are identical or different and are hydrogen, C1-C15-alkyl, C7-C15-alkylaryl or 5- to 7-membered cycloalkyl, which may itself carry C1- to C10-alkyl groups. These catalyst systems are particularly suitable for the preparation of polypropylene and copolymers of propylene with minor amounts of other alpha , beta -unsaturated olefinic compounds having 2 to 12 carbon atoms.

    Abstract: Polymers of propene are prepared using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system consisting of (1) a titanium component which is based on a finely divided, shape-imparting silica gel and contains, in addition to titanium, magnesium, chlorine and a benzenecarboxylic acid derivative, (2) an aluminum component and (3) a silane component. In this process, a titanium component (1) is used which is obtained by a method in which (1.1) first (I) a carrier is prepared from (Ia) a silica gel, (Ib) an alkanol, (Ic) an organomagnesium compound and (Id) a gaseous chlorinating agent by a procedure in which (1.1.1) first (Ia) is reacted with (Ib), (1.1.2) then the mixture obtained in (1.1.1) is combined with (Ic), (1.1.3) then (Id) is passed into the mixture obtained in (1.1.2) and (I) is isolated, (1.2) thereafter a solid-phase intermediate is prepared from (I), (II) an alkanol, (III) titanium tetrachloride and (IV) a phthalic acid derivative by a procedure in which (1.2.1) first (I) is reacted with (II), (1.2.2) then (III) is introduced into the mixture resulting from (1.2.1), with the proviso that (IV) is also introduced during (1.2.1) and/or (1.2.2), (1.3) then the solid-phase product resulting from (1.2) is extracted with titanium tetrachloride and (1.4) finally the solid-phase product resulting from (1.3) is washed with a liquid hydrocarbon.
