Abstract: Ferromagnetic chromium dioxide is prepared by converting oxides of trivalent and hexavalent chromium under superatmospheric pressure and at elevated temperatures in the presence of water and with the addition of an antimony compound as a modifier and, if required, further additives in an amount of not more than 15% by weight, by a method in which the antimony compound is present in the form of a water-soluble salt whose anion contains one or more organic molecular moieties which are oxidized in concentrated chromic acid.

Abstract: A process for the manufacture of acicular ferromagnetic iron particles by heating a goethite, provided with a shape-stabilizing surface coating, at 250 DEG -450 DEG C. in an atmosphere containing water vapor at a partial pressure of not less than 30 mbar, to give alpha-iron(III) oxide, and reducing this material with hydrogen at 275 DEG -425 DEG C., and the use of the iron particles thus obtained as magnetic material in the production of magnetic recording media.

Abstract: A laminated magnetogram carrier, consisting of a substrate with >=2 magnetic layers contg. an acicular magnetic material in an organic binder system, has a toper layer contg. a magnetic pigment with a high static signal-to-noise voltage ratio (S/N) pref. over 61.0 dB whilst the S/N is lower pref. below 61.0 dB for the pigment in the lower layer the coercivity of the materials differing by a max. of +10%. Flexible magnetogram carriers satisfying high requirements w.r.t. static noise are obtd. without the exclusive use of pigments with the required S/N value.
