    Abstract: Compound of the general formula where B and B each independently are hydrogen, bromine, or are C1-C6-alkyl which may or may not be interrupted by oxygen or sulfur and is unsubstituted or substituted by hydroxyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, cyano, unsubstituted, chlorine- substituted or methyl-substituted phenylmercapto, unsubstituted or substituted carbamyl or carboxylic acid ester, or are phenylethyl or benzyl which is unsubstituted or substituted in the ring by chlorine, bromine, methyl, ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy, or are phenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by chlorine, bromine, hydroxyl, methoxy, ethoxy, methyl, C1-C4-alkylmercapto, C1-C4-alkanoylamino or amino, or are unsubstituted or substituted carbamyl or carboxylic acid ester radicals, and B may furthermore by cyano, C2-C4- alkanoyl, benzoyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by chlorine, bromine, methyl, methoxy or ethoxy, C1-C6-alkylsulfonyl, or phenylsulfonyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by chlorine, bromine, methyl, methoxy, ethoxy, amino, C1-C4-alkanoylamino or benzoylamino, X and X each independently are a direct bond, or are phenylene which is unsubstituted or substituted by chlorine or bromine, and Y is an electron-attracting radical, are useful optical brighteners or laser dyes.
