Abstract: The present application demonstrates the clinical potential of fibrin sealants to locally deliver growth factors to ischemic tissue. More particularly, it demonstrates that hydrogels such as Fibrin Sealants can be used to deliver VEGF165 to prevent tissue necrosis caused by hypoxia or ischemia. Specifically, a Fibrin Sealant (FS) was used to deliver VEGF165 to treat tissue necrosis in both a rodent dorsal flap model and a rodent epigastric flap model. Flaps treated with FS spiked with (rh)VEGF165 developed less necrotic tissue. In addition, immunohistological studies revealed a greater numbers of blood vessels (angiogenesis).

Abstract: La presente invencion generalmente se dirige a varias estructuras para aplicar un sellador a una superficie de trabajo. En un aspecto de la invencion, se proporciona un ensamble de aplicador de sellador para usarse con un aparato del tipo que tiene un cuerpo alargado que define un orifico interior y que tiene un piston que se coloca de forma movible en el orificio y un miembro impulsor operativamente asociado con el piston. El ensamble comprende un adaptador de asercion adaptado para comunicarse con el orifico del cuerpo y que define una salida distal. Un primer pasaje de gas se asocia de forma cooperativa con la salida distal y se configura para dirigir gas para crear una descarga de aspersion del sellador. Un miembro de accionamiento se adapta para asociarse de forma cooperativa con un miembro impulsor para impulsar sellador a traves de la salida distal y es operativo para accionar simultaneamente un suministro de gas al primer pasaje de gas para crear una descarga de aspersion de sellador.
