    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer having excellent thermal stability by carrying out the melt ester-interchange polycondensation reaction of a phenol with a specific carbonic acid diester in the presence of a catalyst selected from boric acid salts and incorporated with an acidic substance for neutralizing the basic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer is obtained by using a catalyst produced by incorporating (A) one or more kinds of catalysts selected from boric acid salts (preferably an alkali metal borate) with (B) an acidic substance for neutralizing the basic catalyst (preferably boric acid and/or ammonium biphosphite) and carrying out the melt polycondensation of (C) a dihydric phenol [preferably a compound of the formula (R1 and R2 are H, 1-10C alkyl, etc.; X is halogen; (n) is 0-4), etc.] with (D) a carbonic acid diester having low content of specific impurities (e.g. chlorine and Na ion) preferably at 130-280 deg.C. The amounts of the component A and the component D are preferably 10 to 10 mol and 1.01-1.5mol based on 1mol of the component C, respectively, and the amount of the component B is preferably 1-500 times mol based on the total molar number of the component A.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-molecular-weight polycarbonate having a low terminal hydroxyl concentration, being substantially free from chloride ions and having good heat stability and an excellent hue without using toxic phosgene. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate is produced by adding an ester compound of the formula: R1COOR2 (wherein R1 is a phenyl group, a 5-10 C branched alkyl group or a 6-12 C aryl-substituted phenyl group; and R2 is a phenyl group, a 1-10 C branched alkyl group or a 3-8 C cyclic alkyl group) to the reaction system in the melt polycondensation of a bisphenol with a carbonic diester in the presence of at least one member selected from a basic nitrogen compound and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal borate to thereby block the terminal hydroxyl groups of the formed polycarbonate with R1CO groups.

CONSTITUTION:A dihydric hydroxy compound such as 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane is polycondensed with a bisaryl carbonate such as diphenyl carbonate in the presence of a transesterification catalyst consisting of an electron donative amine compound such as N,N-dimethyl-4-aminopyridine or the electron donative amine compound and alkali (alkaline earth) metal compound in a reactor using a material whose Cu and/or Zn content is >=60% in quantitative relationship of the composition constituted as the material to provide the objective polycarbonate.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer having improve molding and processing properties, mechanical properties, etc., economically and readily, by adding an alpha-olefin epoxide to a reaction system at any point after a precondensation reaction is over when an ester exchange reaction is carried out. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, an ester exchange reaction is started in the presence of a basic catalyst such as an alkali metal, etc., by the use of a dihydric phenol and an aromatic carbonic acid diester as common raw materials or further an aromatic dicarboxylic acid diester in the case of obtaining an aromatic polyester carbonate. Then, preferably 0.1-5wt% based on prepared polymer of an alpha-olefin epoxide (preferably 1,2-octadecene oxide, etc.,) is added to the reaction system at any polymerization stage after the precondensation reaction is over and the reaction is carried out to give a polycarbonate or a polyester carbonate having high fluidity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polyurethane of excellent heat resistance, by reacting an organic diisocyanate with a specified saturated aliphatic lactone-modified diol. CONSTITUTION:A saturated aliphatic lactone-modified diol (a compound having at least two active hydrogen atoms in its molecule) of the formula (wherein R is H or a methyl group, Y is a bivalent residue derived by removing an ester bond from a 6-8C saturated aliphatic lactone ring, m and n are each 1 or 2, and p and q are each 1-30) is reacted with an organic diisocyanate (e.g., tolylene diisocyanate or hexamethylene diisocyanate) to obtain a polyurethane. The compound of the above formula is formed by an addition reaction between a saturated aliphatic lactone and an alkylene oxide adduct of bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfone in the presence of a catalyst such as an organotitanium compound.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-molecular weight colorless and transparent polycarbonate by polymerizing further a polycarbonate prepolymer in the presence of an alkali (alkaline earth) metal. CONSTITUTION:A dihydroxy compound of any one of formulas I-IV (wherein R1 to R5 are each H, 1-8C linear or branched alkyl or phenyl; X is halogen; (n) is 0-4; and (m) is 1-4) is melt-polycondensed with a bisaryl carbonate at 100-300 deg.C in the presence of 10 -10 mol, per mol of the dihydroxy compound, of a transesterification catalyst to obtain a polycarbonate prepolymer of a viscosity-average molecular weight of 1000-30000. The prepolymer is further polymerized in the presence of 1X10 -1wt.% alkali (alkaline earth) metal compound (e.g. lithium borohydride).
