PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of purifying an organic compound which can simply and efficiently remove (meth)acrylic anhydride from a mixture containing an organic compound easy to decompose by a base and (meth)acrylic anhydride as an impurity while inhibiting the decomposition of the organic compound. SOLUTION: The method of purifying an organic compound comprises a step of subjecting a mixture containing an organic compound easy to decompose by a base and (meth)acrylic anhydride to hydrolysis treatment under the conditions of pH 2.2-7 to decompose the (meth)acrylic anhydride. The hydrolysis treatment is preferably carried out in the presence of an organic base or its salt. In that case, as the organic base, a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic compound is preferred. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
