    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a high-molecular polycarbonate contg. no chlorine ion without the necessity of using toxic phosgene, by the melt polycondensation of a dihydroxyl compd. with a bisaryl carbonate in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compd. contg. an element of the group Vb of the periodic table. CONSTITUTION:In the presence of at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of compds. contg. an element of the group Vb of the periodic table, a dihyroxyl compd. (e.g. bisphenol A) is melt polycondensed with a bisaryl carbonate (e.g. bisphenyl carbonate) to give a polycarbonate, which is transparent and suitable for use as a window pane substitute. Examples of the catalyst include 2-methylimidazole, 4-dimethylaminopyridine carbonate, triphenylphosphine, and tetraphenylantimony.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polymer alloy and a composition obtained by compounding the polymer alloy with an unvulcanized rubber, and further to provide a tire part by using the composition. SOLUTION: This polymer alloy comprises (a) a polyester resin having 5-80 acid value, (b) an epoxidized dienic block copolymer and (c) an unvulcanized rubber. The composition is obtained by mixing the polymer alloy with (d) one or more kinds of unvulcanized rubbers derived from a dienic monomer and selected from synthetic rubbers and natural rubbers so that the total of the polyester resin (a) and the epoxidized dienic block copolymer (b) may be 2-25 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. whole unvulcanized rubber in the composition. The tire parts are a tread base, a tread cap, a carcass ply, a cushion, a belt ply, a shoulder wedge, a bead area, an apex or a Shaffer comprising the polymer alloy or the composition.

SOLUTION: This mixture comprises 100 pts.wt. aggregate, 1-5 pts.wt. filler, 1-15 pts.wt. hydraulic inorganic material and 3-15 pts.wt. modified asphalt emulsion containing an epoxidized diene block copolymer. The surface of the aggregate should by coated with the modified asphalt emulsion in which the filler and the inorganic material are dispersed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an epoxy-modified block polymer having a residual organic solvent content of 500ppm or below. SOLUTION: A block copolymer composed of blocks of a polymer based on a vinylaromatic compound and blocks of a polymer based on a conjugated diene or a hydrogenated derivative thereof is mixed with an organic solvent to form a solution or slurry having a polymer concentration of 5-50wt.%, and the block copolymer is epoxidized with an epoxidizing agent. The epoxidation reaction solution is fed into an evaporator and concentrated by the evaporation of the organic solvent, and the concentrated solution is fed into a kneader evaporator to further remove the organic solvent therefrom.

CONSTITUTION:(A) A polyhydric hydroxy compound, e.g. a compound of formula I [R and R are H, 1-8C alkyl or phenyl; X is halogen; (n) is 0-4; (m) is 1-4] is subjected to melt polycondensation with (B) a carbonic acid diester (preferably diphenyl carbonate) using a boric acid salt (preferably lithium borate or potassium borate) of a compound of the formula xMnO.yB2O3.zH2O [(x) is 1-10; (y) is 1-10; (z) is 0-10; (n) is 1-2; M is alkali (earth)metal or quaternary ammonium] or this boric acid salt and an electron donative amine compound as an ester interchange catalyst to provide the objective compound.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject high-molecular weight polymer having good heat resistance, hue and impact resistance by subjecting a divalent OH compound to melt polycondensation with a carbonic acid diester in a tank type reacting vessel in the presence of an ester exchange catalyst and then polycondensing the product in a horizontal reacting vessel. CONSTITUTION:A divalent hydroxy compound [e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxypheyl) propane] and a carbonic acid diester (e.g. diphenyl carbonate) are fed to a horizontal reacting vessel and polycondensation reaction is carried out in the presence of an transesterification catalyst (e.g. 4-dimethylaminopyridine) in a melted state while removing a monovalent hydroxy compound produced by the reaction and unreacted polymer to produce a prepolymer. This prepolymer is cooled from a melted state to a solid state and then, this solid prepolymer is melted and the melted prepolymer is fed to the horizontal polycondensation reacting vessel and polycondensation reaction is carried out to provide the objective high-molecular weight polycarbonate excellent in heat resistance, hue and impact resistance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-molecular weight, chloride-ion-free, colorless transparent polycarbonate without using any toxic phosgene by melt-polycondensing a bisphenol with biphenyl carbonate in the presence of an electron-donating amine compound catalyst and KBH4. CONSTITUTION:A bisphenol [e.g. a compound of formula I, II, III or IV (wherein R1 to R4 are each H, 1-8 C alkyl or phenyl; X is halogen; (n) = 0-4; and (m) = 1-4)] is melt-polycondensed with biphenyl carbonate in the presence of an electron-donating amine compound (e.g. 2-methylimidazole or 4- diethylaminopyridine) and potassium borohydride (KBH4). In this way, a high- molecular weight, substantially chloride ion-free, colorless transparent polycarbonate can be obtained without using any toxic phosgene.
