Abstract: Various types and configurations of pump pods, heat-exchanger systems, and thermal/conductivity sensors are described above. Pump pods can be used in a wide variety of applications including but not limited to heat-exchanger systems and for pumping of bodily fluids or medical fluids. Thermal/conductivity sensors can be used in a wide variety of applications including but not limited to thermal/conductivity measurements of fluids and thermal/conductivity measurements in the context of heat-exchanger systems. Heat-exchanger systems may be used in a wide variety of applications to heat or cool fluids and are not limited to use with pump pods and thermal/conductivity sensors.

Abstract: A reciprocating positive displacement pumping system has a rigid chamber wall to which a flexible membrane is attached defining a pumping chamber. An inlet and outlet allow liquid flow. A rigid limit structure limits the movement of the membrane and the maximum volume of the pumping chamber defining an actuation chamber. An actuation port through which a fluid under positive or negative pressure can communicate with the actuation chamber is configured to connect to a positive pressure fluid reservoir and a negative pressure fluid reservoir through a valving mechanism for controlling the flow of control fluid between the actuation chamber and each of the reservoirs. An actuation chamber pressure transducer measures the pressure of the actuation chamber and a controller integrates pressure information from the actuation chamber pressure transducer over time during a stroke to detect an aberrant liquid flow condition.

Th e apparatus also can include a processor to determine a volume of the air regi on based on signals received from the microphone and the variable acoustic source. A fluid valve is coupled to the processor, and is configured to allo w an amount of fluid to exit the fluid region associated with the volume of th e air region. An atomizer, coupled to the fluid region, is configured to aerosolize at least a portion of the fluid.

Abstract: A prosthetic arm apparatus including a plurality of segments that provide a user of the prosthetic arm apparatus with substantially the same movement capability and function as a human arm. The segments are connectable to one another and connectable to a prosthetic support apparatus that may be adorned by the user. Each segment of the plurality of segments provides a portion of the movement capability, enabling the plurality of connected segments connected to the harness mount to provide substantially the same movement capability as that lacking in the user. A dynamic support apparatus for supporting the prosthetic arm apparatus has a frame, a dynamic interface, a temperature control mechanism, and a control system. The dynamic support apparatus has a control system that is operably connected to the dynamic interface and controls the dynamic interface to change its geometry.

Abstract: A cardiopulmonary bypass system utilizing membrane-based reciprocating positive displacement blood pumps (8300,8400) ('pod pumps'). In one aspect, the pod pumps are constructed to provide reduced shear forces on the blood being pumped. In another aspect blood flow through the pod pumps can be controlled by a controller using information from pressure sensors in the control chamber of the pod pumps. In another aspect, the pod pumps are included on a disposable unit that can be received and held by a receptacle means on a base unit, the base unit also providing pressurized control fluid to the pod pumps on the disposable unit through the receptacle means.
