Abstract:
Dialysis systems comprising actuators that cooperate to perform dialysis functions and sensors that cooperate to monitor dialysis functions are disclosed. According to one aspect, such a hemodialysis system comprises a user interface model layer, a therapy layer, below the user interface model layer, and a machine layer below the therapy layer. The user interface model layer is configured to manage the state of a graphical user interface and receive inputs from a graphical user interface. The therapy layer is configured to run state machines that generate therapy commands based at least in part on the inputs from the graphical user interface. The machine layer is configured to provide commands for the actuators based on the therapy commands.

Abstract:
A reciprocating positive displacement pumping system has a rigid chamber wall to which a flexible membrane is attached defining a pumping chamber. An inlet and outlet allow liquid flow. A rigid limit structure limits the movement of the membrane and the maximum volume of the pumping chamber defining an actuation chamber. An actuation port through which a fluid under positive or negative pressure can communicate with the actuation chamber is configured to connect to a positive pressure fluid reservoir and a negative pressure fluid reservoir through a valving mechanism for controlling the flow of control fluid between the actuation chamber and each of the reservoirs. An actuation chamber pressure transducer measures the pressure of the actuation chamber and a controller integrates pressure information from the actuation chamber pressure transducer over time during a stroke to detect an aberrant liquid flow condition.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention are directed toward systems and methods of transferring fluid using devices that have a rotatable housing (10) . One embodiment of the invention attaches a fluid-drive element (370,350) to a rotatable housing (10) to drive fluid into a conduit (390,381) for transfer. In another embodiment, a pitot tube (310) is attached to the rotatable housi ng (10) , the motion of the housing (10) driving fluid into the conduit for transfer. Other embodiments of the invention may utilize a pressure differen ce to drive fluid through a conduit (360,365) . Embodiments of the invention ma y also utilize baffles (340) to alter circulation of fluid that may be induced by the motion of the rotating housing (10) , to promote fluid transfer throu gh a conduit. Some of the aforementioned embodiments may be especially useful i n transporting fluid in a liquid ring pump with a rotatable housing.
