    Abstract: Circuit Switched Fallback Mechanism There is provided a method and apparatus for handling a Circuit Switched fallback mechanism for a terminal attached to a Packet Switched cell in a radio access network. A request is received at a node in the radio access network to establish a Circuit Switched session with the terminal whilst the terminal has an ongoing Packet Switched session. At the node, a target cell that is capable of handling a Circuit Switched session is selected from a plurality of target cells to which the terminal may attach. A Packet Switched handover is performed to the selected cell, and the Circuit Switched session is also handled in the selected cell.

    Abstract: An end node in a packet-switched network is proposed wherein the end node is arranged to exchange packets consisting of a packet header and payload data with a server node connected to the packet-switched network. The end node includes at least one module adapted to extract quality of service parameter values from the headers of packets received over the packet-switched network and to insert the extracted quality of service parameter value in the headers of packets destined for transmission to the server node over the packet-switched network. In this manner the end node automatically adapts the quality of service parameters received over the packet-switched network to correspond with the type of quality of service defined in received packets. Such a system means that only the server node need be configured with the quality of service parameters applicable on the particular packet switched network, so greatly reducing the installation and configuration overheads in a multi-user network.

    Abstract: ATM is used as a transport and switching mechanism in a hybrid STM/ATM network while the signaling remains normal narrowband signaling. The narrowband signaling is transported on permanent paths over ATM connections, and the narrowband speech channels are transported on ATM and switched on a "Per call basis" (on-demand) through an ATM switch. A translator formats a call-setup-related signaling message into ATM cells so that the signaling message can be routed through an ATM switch to a circuit switched (STM) node. The circuit switched node (PSTN/ISDN) sets up a physical connection for the call and generates a further signaling message therefor that relates to the physical connection. The ATM switch routes an ATM cell-formatted version of the further signaling message to another ATM switch over an ATM physical interface. Thus, the ATM switch switches both narrowband traffic and signaling for the call over the ATM physical interface.

    Abstract: A telecommunications network has a packet switched domain for handling packet based calls and a circuit switched telephony domain for handling circuit switched calls. A node (230) of the packet switched telephony domain decides whether to terminate a call to a user equipment (10) using a packet based connection to the user equipment (10) or using a circuit switched connection to the user equipment (10). In response to deciding to terminate the call using the circuit switched connection, the node (230) sends, to a further node (240) controlling routing of calls between the packet switched telephony domain and the circuit switched telephony domain, an indication (408) that services related to the call are controlled in the packet switched telephony domain. In accordance with the indication, the further node (240) may then adapt its control signalling with respect to a node (320) of the circuit switched telephony domain.

    Abstract: A method and system for limiting redirections of a mobile station (MS) in an unlicensed radio access network having a plurality of unlicensed network controllers (UNCs). The MS includes a redirection counter set to zero within a registration request sent to one of the UNCs. Each time the MS receives a redirection response from a UNC, the MS increments the redirection counter and sends it in another registration request. Once the redirection counter has exceeded a defined value for the MS, the UNC rejects any registration request from that MS.
