Abstract: A source encoder schedules its access to a network IP stack. During that scheduled period, the source encoder blocks the transport of non-real-time TCP and UDP packets. After at least one real-time packet has been transported through the stack, the source encoder allows the non-real-time packets to access the physical layer until the beginning of the next scheduled period. Consequently, the packet transport delay is reduced significantly, which results in a substantial increase in throughput.

Abstract: A DECODER (10) IMPROVES DELAYED PACKET CONCEALMENT IN A PACKET NETWORK BY USING TWO DECODER SECTIONS. A FIRST DECODER (30) SECTION BASES ITS DECODING DURING THE CONCEALMENT PHASE ON ERRONEOUS FILTER STATES AND A SET OF SPEECH PARAMETERS (20,22), WHEREAS A SECOND DECODER (32) SECTION BASES ITS DECODING ON SAVED AND UPDATED FILTER STATES AND THE SAME SPEECH PARAMETERS (20, 22). THE OUTPUTS OF THE TWO DECODER SECTIONS ARE THEREAFTER COMBINED TO FORM THE FINAL SPEECH SIGNAL. THIS DECODING STRATEGY PRODUCES A SPEECH SIGNAL WITH SMOOTH TRANSITIONS FROM DELAYED TO NON-DELAYED PACKETS AND USES INFORMATION FROM THE MOST RECENT PACKETS FOR SPEECH GENERATION.

Abstract: A method and system for improving the end-user quality of service in a packet switched network. Reports are sent from various nodes in the network informing a network supervisor of the end-user quality of service at the node, which represents an estimate of the quality from a human end-user's perspective. The quality supervisor analyzes the reports and sends commands to the node which sent the report and/or to other nodes in order to improve the end-user quality of service at the node and in the packet switched network as a whole. The nodes comprise sending and receiving terminals, routers and gateways. The reports include measurements of link parameters, device parameters and end-user quality of service.

Abstract: A decoder improves delayed packet concealment in a packet network by using two decoder sections. A first decoder section bases its decoding during the concealment phase on erroneous filter states and a set of speech parameters, whereas a second decoder section bases its decoding on saved and updated filter states and the same speech parameters. The outputs of the two decoder sections are thereafter combined to form the final speech signal. This decoding strategy produces a speech signal with smooth transitions from delayed to non-delayed packets and uses information from the most recent packets for speech generation.

Abstract: In packet communication paths (18) that include header compression, header fields of packets to be communicated are altered. The alteration of the header fields (14) does not disturb their functionality, and its transparent to the header compression scheme of the packet communication path (18). The altered header fields (14) are provided for compression by the header compression scheme, resulting in improved performance of the header compression scheme. Performance improvements can also be achieved in packet communication paths (18) that do not use header compression, by violating the integrity of header fields in packets to be transmitted over the packet communication path (18).

Abstract: Adaptive gain control techniques provide correctly adjusted audio signal levels during the entirety of an Internet telephony conversation and are resilient to background noise and loudspeaker echo. Disclosed techniques can account for multiple near-end speakers, as well as changes in near-end environment. In an exemplary embodiment, an adaptive gain controller includes a gain control processor configured to adjust an analog gain for a microphone output signal based on measurements of the microphone output signal and on measurements of a loudspeaker input signal.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a receiver system in a communication system supporting packet-based communicatior (e.g., an IP-network), including a receiver, speech decoder ( 40 ) and a jitter buffer ( 20 ) for handling delay variations in the reception of a speech signal consisting of packets containing frames with encoded speech. A jitter buffer controller ( 50 ) is provided for keeping information about the functional size of the jitter buffer ( 20 ) and for providing the speech decoder ( 40 ) with control information, such that the speech decoder ( 40 ), based on that information. provides a dynamic adaptation of the size of the jitter buffer ( 20 ) using the received encoded, packetized speech signal. The invention also relates to a method of adapting the functional size of the jitter buffer of a receiver system.
