Abstract:
A flame retardant grease composition is described for low temperature applications comprising mixed alkoxy and alkylated phenyl triesters of a phosphorus oxyacid as a base fluid and a siliceous microparticulate inorganic thickener. The grease has excellent low, medium and high temperature physical properties, which makes it suitable for service in applications with wide temperature (-40 °C to +150 °C) fluctuations. The benefits of reduced rolling resistance can be realized in significant energy savings and the possibility of constructing longer conveyor lines with existing drive motors.
Abstract:
A process for preparing lithium aluminate of at least 95 % gamma phase with surface areas greater than 10 m2/g by homogeneously mixing a gamma lithium aluminate with surface area of less than 8 m2/g with an aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution having a concentration of 5 to 70 % for at least 1/2 hour at a temperature greater than 0 °C and less than 120 °C, the treated gamma lithium aluminate is dried by heating to a temperature greater than 200 °C until dry and ground to produce a gamma-lithium aluminate with surface area greater than 10 m2/g.
Abstract:
Clarified konjac glucomannan compositions substantially free of insoluble impurities, having a nitrogen content of no greater than about 0.60 wt %, and a turbidity potential as a 1.0 % aqueous sol of no greater than about 100 turbidity units as measured by the Formazin Turbidity Standard, as well as aqueous gels and sols, cold melt gels and spongy forms thereof. The resulting sols and gels may be used in foodstuffs, industrial biotechnical applications.
Abstract:
A process is provided in which manganese dioxide stains in denim fabric which has been partially decolorized with potassium permanganate are neutralized or removed by an aqueous solution of peracetic acid containing at least 1 part by weight acetic acid and 1.5 parts by weight hydrogen peroxide per part by weight peracetic acid.
Abstract:
Carrier composition for agricultural and other actives, comprising a finely divided particulate combination of microcrystalline cellulose, at least one chemically inert, nitrogen-containing, water soluble or swellable compound such as urea, an ammonium salt or a metallic nitrate and, optionally, a suspending agent for the microcrystalline cellulose. The carrier is compressible or extrudable with an active agent to form shaped, solid dosage forms such as tablets which disintegrate rapidly in an aqueous medium.
Abstract:
A process for purifying wastewater containing fats and proteins as skimmings in a dissolved air flotation cell wherein an amount of a persulfate is added to the skimmings effective to increase by at least 10 % of the volume fraction of a solids-rich fraction which is separated in the dissolved air flotation cell from the skimmings after the persulfate enriched skimmings have been maintained for a predetermined period of time at a predetermined temperature.
Abstract:
A microporous sheet characterized by a polymeric matrix and a carrier liquid insoluble, particulate, activated polysaccharide media dispersed therein; use of the sheet in affinity chromatography or ion-exchange chromatography or as a biochemical reactor or battery separator; processes for manufacturing the sheet; apparatus containing the microporous sheet as its active element; and methods for using such sheet.
Abstract:
Derivatized agarose products and a process for their preparation. The process of the invention can be carried out by: A) forming a solution of an agarose in an aqueous medium or in the C2-C5 polyol, B) contacting the above solution as in step B above to form a precipitate, C) isolating the precipitate from the solution, and D) reacting the precipitate with a derivatizing agent to produce a first derivatized agarose product, and optionally, E) contacting the solution resulting from step C with a quantity of an aqueous salt solution in amount sufficient to produce a second precipitate with a derivatizing agent to produce a second derivatized agarose product.
Abstract:
Disclosed are extraordinarily soluble agaroid (preferably agarose or agar) compositions which may be: (a) irregular microparticles with high surface area; (b) a microporous matrix; (c) suspended or dissolved in a glycol at room temperature; (d) suspended in a water-miscible agaroid non-solvent; (e) dispersed within a three-dimensional non-agaroid matrix; (f) a sintered mat; (g) an encapsulating shell around another substance; (h) converted into a conventionally soluble agaroid; or (i) a microparticle converted into a cross-linked agaroid. Also disclosed are methods for preparation of these compositions.
Abstract:
The invention provides a process to coat dry particles comprising sodium carbonate perhydrate to provide a stable dry particulate solid which releases hydrogen peroxide when contacted with an aqueous solution. The coated particles are readily soluble in water and/or stable when formulated into a solid detergent.
